The Dog League: Week 9 Preview (2021 Season)

Bark Force was crippled in Week 8, losing their biggest star, Derrick Henry, for what could be the remainder of the year. Meanwhile, Rascal showed out in a big win over Canine Comets that induced the league's fifth lead change of 2021. (Reminder: the Dog League is a custom fantasy football league run on NFL.com)

Canine Comets

Current Record: (1-7, 8th Place)

The Comets are now left alone in last place, with a team that continues to be crippled by injuries and the possibility of a lost season staring them in the face. The situation gets even worse this week, as receivers Chris Godwin and DK Metcalf go on bye, forcing the less reliable duo of Jaylen Waddle and Jerry Jeudy into the starting lineup. They make two changes at running back, hoping to freshen that aspect of the roster up, as they drop Alex Collins and Kenneth Gainwell to add Zack Moss and Jeremy McNichols. For now, Moss is the one who gets the starting flex spot.

UPDATE: The Comets will start Julio Jones over Jerry Jeudy for this week.

Week 9 Starting Lineup(vs Bark Force)

QB Patrick Mahomes
RB Nick Chubb
RB Devontae Booker
WR Diontae Johnson
WR Jaylen Waddle
WR Julio Jones
TE Travis Kelce
RB Zack Moss
K Younghoe Koo
DEF Buffalo Bills

Tug of War

Current Record: (3-5, 7th Place)

Tug of War got back to winning ways in Week 8, putting up almost 170 points in a win over Tailwaggerz, a sudden scoring burst that was buoyed by the stellar performance of Michael Carter, who broke out with 32 points. This week, they get back Marquise Brown from bye, but lose Tom Brady, as Kirk Cousins takes the starting quarterback role, while Chase Claypool heads to the bench.

UPDATE: Tug of War has added Jamison Crowder for Corey Davis, and will start him over Tee Higgins.

UPDATE (x2): Tug of War has benched Eli Mitchell to start Higgins.

Week 9 Starting Lineup(vs Leaping Girl)

QB Kirk Cousins
RB Aaron Jones
RB Michael Carter
WR Marquise Brown
WR Amari Cooper
WR Tee Higgins
TE Mike Gesicki
WR Jamison Crowder
K Tyler Bass
DEF Green Bay Packers

Growlers

Current Record: (3-5, 6th Place)

Growlers made it back-to-back wins, as Darrel Williams did enough to hand them a Monday night triumph over Leaping Girl, propelling what was once the weakest team in the league into a playoff spot. Now, they need to hold it, and prepare for a future without Calvin Ridley, as his absence leaves a starting receiver spot open. That will be filled by DeVante Parker, whom Growlers brought in for Russell Gage. That's their only waiver move, however they did make a starting swap at defense, starting the Saints over the Bengals.

UPDATE: With DeVante Parker on injured reserve, Growlers will start Emmanuel Sanders this week.

Week 9 Starting Lineup(vs Rare Woofs)

QB Josh Allen
RB Austin Ekeler
RB Cordarrelle Patterson
WR A.J. Brown
WR Mike Williams
WR Emmanuel Sanders
TE Dalton Schultz
RB Darrel Williams
K Matt Gay
DEF New Orleans Saints

Leaping Girl

Current Record: (4-4, 5th Place)

Emma enters a tough week, as D'Andre Swift, Mike Evans, and T.J. Hockenson are on bye, while the health of her star Cardinals, Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins, is in question. Murray is on the bench while Hopkins is still starting, but Emma brought in a backup in case he can't go, dropping Laviska Shenault to add Rashod Bateman. As a result of all the talent on bye, Courtland Sutton, Dallas Goedert, and Josh Jacobs get starting spots, while Emma dropped Ryan Succop to add Greg Zuerlein as her new kicker.

UPDATE: Leaping Girl has benched DeAndre Hopkins, a game-time call, for Kadarius Toney.

Week 9 Starting Lineup(vs Tug of War)

QB Jalen Hurts
RB Alvin Kamara
RB Ezekiel Elliott
WR Michael Pittman
WR Courtland Sutton
WR Kadarius Toney
TE Dallas Goedert
RB Josh Jacobs
K Greg Zuerlein
DEF Pittsburgh Steelers

Rare Woofs

Current Record: (5-3, 4th Place)

They weren't stellar in Week 8, putting up just 108 points, but that was enough for Rare Woofs to get an important win over Bark Force. They get back Mark Andrews from bye, and with Noah Fant on the COVID list, they used Fant's roster spot to add his backup in Denver, Albert Okwuegbunam. They also switched Raiders receivers, dropping the reprehensible Henry Ruggs to add Bryan Edwards.

UPDATE: Rare Woofs welcomes back Christian McCaffrey, benching Chuba Hubbard.

UPDATE: Rare Woofs has dropped Bryan Edwards to bring David Montgomery back from reserve, as he starts over Khalil Herbert.

Week 9 Starting Lineup(vs Growlers)

QB Justin Herbert
RB Christian McCaffrey
RB David Montgomery
WR Stefon Diggs
WR Deebo Samuel
WR Justin Jefferson
TE Mark Andrews
WR D.J. Moore
K Matt Prater
DEF Dallas Cowboys

Bark Force

Current Record: (5-3, 3rd Place)

It would be putting it mildly to say that Bark Force is a disaster right now, with Aaron Rodgers testing positive for COVID, Davante Adams still not fully back after testing positive himself, Derrick Henry , James Robinson, and Sterling Shepard all out injured, their early exits leaving Bark Force to put a miserable 93 points last week, and the team didn't even have a tight end yesterday, as Ricky Seals-Jones is on bye. This team needs a lot of work, and got to it, dropping D'Ernest Johnson to add Boston Scott, and using Henry's vacated roster spot (he's in the reserve) to add Pat Freiermuth to be the new starting tight end. They just have to hope to ride out the storm, and this patchwork lineup can still be competitive.

UPDATE: With Aaron Rodgers now in the reserve, Jordan Love has taken his roster spot.

Week 9 Starting Lineup(vs Canine Comets)

QB Lamar Jackson
RB Darrell Henderson
RB Myles Gaskin
WR Davante Adams
WR CeeDee Lamb
WR DeVonta Smith
TE Pat Freiermuth
RB Boston Scott
K Daniel Carlson
DEF Baltimore Ravens

Tailwaggerz

Current Record: (5-3, 2nd Place)

Tailwaggerz weren't thrilled about their Week 8 loss to Tug of War, but at least they knew it took a big performance from Tug of War to beat them. This week, they deal with bye weeks for Antonio Gibson, Antonio Brown, and Terry McLaurin, but have more than enough depth to handle it, as the starting lineup remains solid. The only player that is new to action this week is Melvin Gordon, as Tailwaggerz hopes he can follow up his 2-touchdown game with another lucrative performance against Dallas.

Week 9 Starting Lineup(vs Ridiculous Rascals)

QB Matthew Stafford
RB Najee Harris
RB Dalvin Cook
WR Cooper Kupp
WR Adam Thielen
WR Keenan Allen
TE Kyle Pitts
RB Melvin Gordon
K Harrison Butker
DEF Indianapolis Colts

Ridiculous Rascals

Current Record: (6-2, 1st Place)

Rascal is riding high, on a five game winning streak, coming off a dominant win over the Comets, and is now back in first place, reclaiming the spot after losing it back in Week 2. He's still streaming at quarterback, which isn't ideal but is necessary as long as Russell Wilson remains out. This week, Carson Wentz gets the start, as he was added for Daniel Jones. Rascal also gets an extra receiver, as he drops Greg Zuerlein to add Jakobi Meyers.

UPDATE: Rascal has benched the questionable Robert Woods for Chase Edmonds.

Week 9 Starting Lineup(vs Canine Comets)

QB Carson Wentz
RB Jonathan Taylor
RB Joe Mixon
WR Tyreek Hill
WR Ja'Marr Chase
WR Brandin Cooks
TE Darren Waller
RB Chase Edmonds
K Justin Tucker
DEF Los Angeles Rams

South Park "Not Funny" Review

Good night, amateur trolls that trolled a troll and trolled themselves into a troll, brothers. With one episode to go in the season, South Park has remained consistently funny and on-point with their humor, though I worry about how their going to wrap all of this up. There are a good six to seven ongoing storylines right now, and only one episode to finish off a few of them. There was no clear focus this week, but I'll start where the episode ended, with Gerald's troll-based storyline. It's pretty satisfying to see the Troll Hunter's massive revelation; that he is, in fact, just another troll, bent on world destruction. Even Gerald couldn't find the humor in his master plan, as the Troll Hunter is truly in a league of his own. With the world on the brink of war, the trolling has truly begun, as the Troll Hunter went to work on his own employees and the other trolls, though why they had to be naked for that is beyond me. Kyle is always a sucker for saving the ...
