The Dog League: Week 1 Preview (2021 Season)

At last, we approach the start of the 2021 season, where our two new expansion teams get set to make their debut, and Rare Woofs look to begin a campaign for the league's first ever three-peat. It's been a roller-coaster ride throughout the offseason, and all eight teams are ready for the real games to begin. (Reminder: the Dog League is a custom fantasy football league run on NFL.com)

Canine Comets

Only one lineup change was made by the Comets, as they brought in Chris Carson to start in their flex role, replacing Diontae Johnson. They will need to keep an eye on Chris Godwin, who is currently dealing with a quad injury; Johnson would be the replacement for Godwin if necessary.

UPDATE: The Comets have gone back on the previous decision to start Carson, handing the starting flex job back to Johnson.

Week 1 Starting Lineup(vs Ridiculous Rascals)

QB Patrick Mahomes
RB Nick Chubb
RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire
WR Chris Godwin
WR DK Metcalf
TE Travis Kelce
WR Diontae Johnson
K Younghoe Koo
DEF Buffalo Bills

Growlers

After a tumultuous first offseason, the Growlers are quiet heading into their debut, making one change at defense, starting the Patriots over the Saints, as New Orleans heads into a terrible matchup with the Packers. There was serious consideration put towards starting Brandon Aiyuk over Allen Robinson, as Aiyuk takes on the hapless Lions while Robinson draws a tough Week 1 assignment against Jalen Ramsey and the Rams, but for now, confidence in Robinson remains high.

Week 1 Starting Lineup(vs Leaping Girl)

QB Josh Allen
RB Austin Ekeler
RB Damien Harris
WR Calvin Ridley
WR A.J. Brown
TE Tyler Higbee
WR Allen Robinson
K Rodrigo Blankenship
DEF New England Patriots

Ridiculous Rascals

Rascal has made no changes to the lineup he drafted in advance of Week 1, although he was wondering about the possibility to drop Brandin Cooks, who may not get as many looks down the field with Tyrod Taylor now confirmed as Houston's starting quarterback. We might see a move later on, but Rascal elected to wait and see what that offense looks like before he makes a decision on Cooks.

Week 1 Starting Lineup(vs Canine Comets)

QB Russell Wilson
RB Jonathan Taylor
RB Joe Mixon
WR Tyreek Hill
WR Robert Woods
TE Darren Waller
RB Mike Davis
K Justin Tucker
DEF Los Angeles Rams

Tug of War

No changes were made to the starting lineup of Tug of War this week, who may well be dependent on a good result for Tom Brady and Amari Cooper tomorrow if they want any shot of starting off the year with a win, as the rest of their lineup looks fairly weak.

Week 1 Starting Lineup(vs Tailwaggerz)

QB Tom Brady
RB Saquon Barkley
RB Aaron Jones
WR Amari Cooper
WR Tee Higgins
TE George Kittle
RB Miles Sanders
K Tyler Bass
DEF Washington Football Team

Leaping Girl

Emma gets the tantalizing prospect of the dynamic Raheem Mostert going against the soft Lions defense this week, and has elected not to waste this opportunity, playing Mostert in the flex spot over D'Andre Swift. She has to hope that T.J. Hockenson is ready to go this week, as she has no other tight end on the roster.

Week 1 Starting Lineup(vs Growlers)

QB Kyler Murray
RB Alvin Kamara
RB Ezekiel Elliott
WR DeAndre Hopkins
WR Mike Evans
TE T.J. Hockenson
RB Raheem Mostert
K Ryan Succop
DEF Pittsburgh Steelers

Bark Force

The large-scale battle for Bark Force this week was over the flex spot, where Myles Gaskin, Darrell Henderson, Marvin Jones, Gus Edwards, and DeVonta Smith all threw their hat in the ring. Ultimately, the call was made to go with Edwards, who could be a breakout star on Monday night against the suspect Raiders defense. Bark Force also made a switch at tight end, starting Logan Thomas over Dallas Goedert, and at defense, starting the Broncos over the Ravens. This final move was to avoid relying too heavily on Baltimore (they also drafted Lamar Jackson), and also due to the Broncos having a potentially juicy matchup against the Giants and Daniel Jones.

UPDATE: With Edwards facing a season-ending ACL injury, he has been dropped for Jarvis Landry. Rookie DeVonta Smith is now penciled in for the start in the flex.

Week 1 Starting Lineup(vs Rare Woofs)

QB Lamar Jackson
RB Derrick Henry
RB James Robinson
WR Davante Adams
WR CeeDee Lamb
TE Logan Thomas
WR DeVonta Smith
K Daniel Carlson
DEF Denver Broncos

Tailwaggerz

Tailwaggerz are extremely pleased to see Dak Prescott ready, as he provides a huge boost in their chase for a second Dog League title. They made no changes to their lineup for this week.

UPDATE: Tailwaggerz has decided to drop the Chargers, their backup defense, to add the Seahawks defense, who will start over the Colts this week, due to a favorable matchup against Carson Wentz and Colts offense.

UPDATE (x2): Cooper Kupp will start in the flex over Antonio Gibson this week, due to a perceived favorable matchup against the Bears' corners.

Week 1 Starting Lineup(vs Tug of War)

QB Dak Prescott
RB Dalvin Cook
RB Najee Harris
WR Keenan Allen
WR Terry McLaurin
TE Kyle Pitts
WR Cooper Kupp
K Harrison Butker
DEF Seattle Seahawks

Rare Woofs

Rare Woofs made the only waiver move in the league this week, dropping the Bears defense to add the Packers, and they will get the start this week, as they hope to force some turnovers from Jameis Winston and the Saints offense.

UPDATE: Rare Woofs have made a change on their bench, dropping the injured Curtis Samuel to add Deebo Samuel.

Week 1 Starting Lineup(vs Bark Force)

QB Justin Herbert
RB Christian McCaffrey
RB David Montgomery
WR Stefon Diggs
WR Justin Jefferson
TE Mark Andrews
WR Julio Jones
K Jason Sanders
DEF Green Bay Packers

American Dad "Twinanigans" Review

It's been a while since the last Steve and Roger episode, and this week reminded me why that's such a classic American Dad pairing. This is a genuinely fun episode, filled with some great one liners and even a great callback to the show's past. "Twinanigans" centers around the heretofore unmentioned acting careers of Roger and Steve, who twinned it up as the Smith Brothers. I'm not going to question whether this backstory actually makes sense to the overall timeline; no one watches American Dad for continuity. Steve had to give up acting to attend kindergarten, and wants to give Roger a second chance at greatness. The two head to auditions, where Steve impresses and Roger blows it. It's here the episode kinda misfires, as it's never made abundantly clear why Roger struggles so much at acting. Is he just trying too hard, does he have some form of stage fright, does he not even know what acting is? This part of the story is just never explained, w...

The Route of Life

dedicated to my hermits, who changed my life Ch 1 My Hermit crabs Hermit crabs are sometimes hard to take care of. Especially when you never had a hermit. Last Sunday afternoon I got 2 Hermit crabs. Their names are Crabbe and Goyle. I have talked with many sales people. The first Petco we went to (where we got the hermits and their things) seemed to have no idea on the subject. So we ended up going to Dolphin Pet Village. They were more experience at the subject. Now we have some of the things we will need. Last week, I went to a second Petco. There we got a cuttlebone, which is the bone of a fish. Now they look happy. Have a good day Hermit Crabs! Ch 2 Curious Crab The week before last week, my mom looked into my crabitat and found that one of my crabs had climbed one of my fake trees. It was on the top branch. Later, when I was changing to get ready for bed, the crab fell out of his branch. I hope he is okay. He’s definitely starting to look okay. How funny do you think that story is...

Henry's Pay-Per-View Reviews: ECW Heatwave 1998

As the world collectively loses it's mind over the coronavirus(this could be a fun intro to look back on in the future), the only sanity that can be found is in the ring. Let's take a look today at what is often considered ECW's finest outing, Heatwave '98. - Jokes aside, everyone should stay safe out there. I know it's easy to panic about these mass outbreaks, and I've certainly felt very nervous about everything I've heard and read over the past week. But I think we all need some fun in our lives right now, and this show is the epitome of distraction. - The opening contest is one of the highlights of the night, as Jerry Lynn takes on Justin Credible. Credible has an entire entourage in his corner, including Chastity, Jason and Nicole Bass, and their involvement in this match at times bordered on excessive. But the match begins to hit it's peak when Lynn puts Credible through a table with a hurricanrana, and it's all fantastic from...
