Vancouver Canucks Regular Season: Games 16-25

The format has changed again, as now I'll just sim all the games, since this game is kind of broken. However, your experience shouldn't change, as I'll still go in-depth on all of the games. Game 16 was the return home against the Florida Panthers. Higgins got 2 in the first period to hand Luongo the early lead. Henrik Sedin, Roy, and Malholtra all got goals in the second. Fleischmann got one back to make it 5-1. Boyes and Booth scored for the Canucks, and Mueller and Upshall scored for the Panthers to make it 7-3 the final. The Blackhawks proved tough in Rogers Arena, as early goals from Hamhuis and Daniel Sedin weren't enough to keep the game in regulation, and Chicago won it in the shootout. The final game of the homestand was against the Minnesota Wild. Mikku Koivu got one in the second, but Hamhuis' two goals in the third, plus Roy's empty netter, gave the Canucks faithful a 3-1 victory. Hedberg was in net for the start of the road trip against the Sena...

Vancouver Canucks Regular Season: Games 9-15

So, we start out with bad news: Jason Garrison is out for a week or two, meaning Brett Lebda will now play. My new idea is to sim 3 games, and then play the fourth. Then I'll sim an extra 3 games. That will make the season faster, and I'll be able to play more seasons in the future. Game 9 was a return home against the Lightning. In the first period, both Derek Roy and Daniel Sedin scored for the Canucks. Pouliot got one for the Lightning, but was answered by Christopher Higgins. Burrows added two more in the third for a 5-1 win. Game 10 was a home redemption game against the Red Wings. David Booth got the first tally of the game in the first period for the lead. Hamhuis scored on the power play, but was answered by Datsyuk and Brunner, and the game was tied and went into overtime. Derek Roy scored in the shootout, after overtime went scoreless, and the Canucks won back-to-back games. The homestand continued against the Avs, as Jason Garrison returned to active duty and J...

Vancouver Canucks: Regular Season Games 5-8

We open this installment by making a trade, sending the NY Islanders our 2014 1st round pick, Andrew Ebbett, and Maxim Lapierre, for Brad Boyes and Eric Boulton. Brad Boyes will become our 3rd line sniper, meaning we send down Nicklas Jensen, who has underperformed to start the year. Game 5 is the second of a back-to-back, as we visit Columbus. It was a defensive battle for much of the game, as Nikita Nikitin recorded the first marker for the Blue Jackets with 8 minutes left in the game. Sergei Bobrovsky held it there, recording a 25-shot shutout. Game 6 looked to be a tough match-up, as we traveled to Detroit to take on the Red Wings. Mikael Samuelsson scored early, just 10 minutes into the game to give the Red Wings the lead. Jonathan Ericsson would score as well with 3 minutes left in the first, as Luongo was pulled. Brendan Smith scored in the second to make it a 3-0 lead for the Red Wings. A Kesler turnover led to another Red Wings goal, as Henrik Zetterburg scored. Stephen We...

Vancouver Canucks: Regular Season Games 1-4

The regular season is ready to get underway, as the Canucks would go first to Calgary to open the season. Vancouver got on the board first on a Ryan Kesler breakaway goal. Solid defensive work from the 'Nucks kept the score there until Alexander Burrows scored the empty netter with 15.8 seconds left. Roberto Luongo faced only 13 shots and the Canucks had their first win on the year. Game 2 was the home opener, as the Canucks got set to host the Edmonton Oilers. The Canucks got a quick one, as a Daniel Sedin tip in on Alexander Edler shot gave them the lead just a minute and 27 seconds in. The Oilers came back quickly to score as Ryan Nugent-Hopkins sniped one home just four minutes later on the power play. Another powerplay goal in the second period came as Taylor Hall put home a rebound goal. However, Derek Roy was there for the Canucks, putting home the tying goal with 5 minutes left in the second. Ryan Kesler continued the onslaught, as he put one home just one minute later. T...

Vancouver Canucks: Preseason

The NHL season opened up in the Pre-Season, and the Canucks were ready to go. Before the preseason started however, I made my first move on the job, trading away veteran d-man Kevin Bieksa(84 overall) and 2013 first and third round picks to the NY Rangers for offensive d-man John Moore(74 overall), a young guy with a great shot. A goalie battle will take place in preseason for the back up to Roberto Luongo, as Johan Hedberg will take games 1 and 3, and Eddie Lack will take 2 and 4. The Canucks fell in Game 1, 1-0, as Avalanche goalie Jean-Sebastien Giguere posted a 31-shot shutout. Game 2 was also squandered away as the Canucks lost 2-1, as Jordan Schroeder's 1st period goal went for naught in the first preseason home game. Game 3 was an overtime thriller as Henrik Sedin and Niklas Jensen both scored, but a fluke goal from the Oilers resulted in a 3-2 loss in OT. Game 4 was a match up of winless teams, as the Wild would host the Canucks. The Canucks offense sputtered as another...

Completed Trades

This is a place for all completed trades. Latest on top. • The Dodgers have announced the acquisition of catcher Drew Butera from the Twins. The Twins will receive a PTBNL. • The Orioles have acquired starter Bud Norris from the Astros for outfielder L.J. Hoes, pitcher Josh Hader, and a competitive balance pick. • The Royals have acquired center fielder Justin Maxwell from the Astros. The Astros will receive a prospect pitcher in exchange. •Ian Kennedy has indeed been traded to the Padres. The D-Backs will receive Joe Thatcher, a prospect, and a compensation round B draft pick. This is surprisingly light for a Cy Young contender who has team control through 2015 and is only 28 years of age.

The Alfonso Soriano Trade

The speculation finally ended a few days ago, with the Cubs trading Alfonso Soriano to the New York Yankees. If you remember, Soriano used to be a Yankee, before signing with the Cubs. Always known  for his incredible power and incredible ability to miss half the pitches he saw in an at-bat by six feet or more, Soriano has been rumored to be traded for over two years now. As a Giants fan, I'm glad to see Soriano off the market, before Brian Sabean does anything stupid. What do you think?

Rumors around the League

Here we go, latest rumors on top. • Javier Lopez and the Giants share mutual interest in a return. • The Cardinals and Cubs have been unable to agree on a price for Dioner Navarro, and the Cardinals have stopped pursuing him. • The Tigers will not be going after Javier Lopez, and Bruce Bochy is certain he will stay in SF. • An issue with Josh Hader's medical may prevent him from going to Houston. • There appears to be a third piece involved in the Bud Norris deal. • The Braves have talked to the Yankees about Phil Hughes, but a deal doesn't seem to be in the works. • The Orioles continue to make headway on a trade involving Bud Norris. • The Phillies appear to be skeptical that they will make any move prior to the deadline. • The Pirates attempted to make a play for Angels outfielder Mark Trumbo. A starter may have been involved in a possible trade attempt. • Nick Cafardo reports that it looks likely that Nate Schierholtz will remain with the Cubbies. • The...

The Jake Peavy Trade

Last night, Jake Peavy became the newest member of the Boston Red Sox. It was a three-team deal involving the White Sox, Tigers, and the Red Sox. Peavy and Bryan Villarreal went to Boston, Jose Iglesias went to Detroit, and Avisail Garcia and three other prospects to Chicago. I believe this was a great trade for the Red Sox, with Clay Bucholtz still out. Peavy is a bone fide ace, with an impressive arsenal of pitches and motion. What do you think? Be sure to weigh in.

Ian Kennedy: Trade to Padres?

Latest update off the news wire: Ian Kennedy may be traded. The ace of the struggling D-Backs may be in San Diego by the end of the day. The Padres may be getting close to a deal involving Kennedy. Knowing the Padres, this would be a great move for them. Thoughts?
