Prime Time Players vs Triple H and ???- Royal Rumble Qualification Match
With The Game in need of a tag team partner to enter the Royal Rumble, there was only one man he could call. To open SmackDown, we saw the reunion of D-Generation X, as Shawn Michaels came out of retirement to help his buddy out, and also punch his own spot in the Royal Rumble. The two veterans out-classed a struggling Prime Time Players, with HBK tuning up the band once more to deliver a devastating Sweet Chin Music to Titus for the win.
Winners: D-Generation X
Apollo Crews Promo
The former Intercontinental Champion looked to be in a foul mood after his loss to Kevin Owens on Main Event last week. Gone was the cheerful Apollo that we've gotten used to, and in his place stood a very frustrated man. Apollo went on a tangent, blaming his short Intercontinental Title reign, his relative lack of success and his standing on SmackDown entirely on the fans. GM Daniel Bryan came out to try and calm Apollo down, but was completely unsuccessful. Apollo stormed out of the building, yelling at fans and bystanders as he went.
Neville vs Fandango- Royal Rumble Qualification Match
A week after the end of the tag team Breezango, Fandango looked to get going in singles action, but was met with a tough challenge in the form of the debuting Neville. The Man That Gravity Forgot got off to a great start, putting Fandango in trouble early on. A turning point in the match was the arrival of the WWE Champion Tyler Breeze, who wanted to play mind games with his former tag partner. I backfired for Prince Pretty, though, as Breeze's arrival served to motivate Fandango, who rallied and put Neville away with the Last Dance leg drop. The Lord of Dance punches his ticket to the Royal Rumble, showing off a few moves after the match to the anger of a furious Breeze.
Winner: Fandango
Royal Rumble Qualification Matches Set For Next Week
On the final SmackDown before the Royal Rumble, we will see monsters collide as Kane faces Braun Strowman for a Rumble spot. Also, there will be a "Last Chance" triple threat match for the final Rumble spot.
Baron Corbin vs Dolph Ziggler
The Lone Wolf came into this match with a lot of motivation, as Daniel Bryan promised Corbin an Intercontinental Title match at the Royal Rumble, and entry into the Rumble match itself if Corbin could pick up a win. Dolph Ziggler is a talented wrestler, but he couldn't manage the pure tenacity and fire Corbin brought. Corbin connected with an End of Days, but wasn't finished until he hit a second End of Days to send a message to The Miz, watching on at ringside.
Winner: Baron Corbin
Natalya vs Charlotte vs Becky Lynch vs Alexa Bliss- #1 Contender's Match for the SmackDown Women's Title
Four women, each looking for the shot to dethrone Paige, collided in this big number one contender's match. Alexa Bliss came into this match on a roll after defeating Dana Brooke, and set her sights on Becky Lynch. The daughter of Ric Flair, Charlotte, looked to take out the vet in Natalya, as the two blondes battled for most of the match. Becky battled with all the fire she could muster, but Alexa was motivated to prove her former mentor, Emma, wrong, and it showed, as Alexa delivered devastating offense on route to the big win.
After the match, the champ, Paige, looked to get the advantage of her next challenger, but Alexa saw it coming, flooring Paige and sending the champion running. She may be small, but Alexa Bliss is on a massive roll of momentum.
Winner: Alexa Bliss
Another Title Match Set For the Royal Rumble
In addition to Corbin vs Miz for the IC Title and the winner of the main event against Tyler Breeze, we will also see The Revival, who pinned the champs a few weeks ago, take on American Alpha for the WWE Tag Team Titles. As a preview for that match, Scott Dawson will take on Jason Jordan next week.
AJ Styles vs Tyson Kidd- #1 Contender's Match for the WWE Title
The Phenomenal One looked as confident as ever that he would be facing Tyler Breeze at Royal Rumble, but Tyson Kidd had something to say about that. Although Styles got off to a good start, Kidd fought back and completely out-wrestled AJ. Quickly, Styles realized how much better Kidd was, and he left the ring in a panic. Kidd followed to the outside, and the match broke down into a brawl. Styles felt a little more comfortable in this environment, and provided a punctuation mark, smashing Kidd through the announce table with a Styles Clash. Neither man was paying attention to the count or the ref, and the official had no choice but to throw the match out.
The brawl continued after the match, both men trying their best to maim the other. SmackDown went off the air in pure chaos, officials having no luck trying to separate the combatants. With this result, who will face Tyler Breeze at the Royal Rumble for the WWE Title?
Thanks for tuning in to SmackDown. Stick around for Main Event tomorrow, where it's the final week of the group stage of the Cruiserweight Classic.
