With one week down, welcome back to the Dog League. Let's recap the opening week of the second season of Dog League football. (Reminder: the Dog League is a custom fantasy football league run on NFL.com)
Leaping Girl
It was a tough first week for Emma, who suffered a close loss to the Ridiculous Rascals in a game that saw first overall pick David Johnson go down with a wrist injury. She also had poor performances from the likes of Dez Bryant and Jordan Reed, and the team showed a serious lack of star power. Without any top performer, the future doesn't look too bright for Leaping Girl.
Week 1 Scoring(lost to Ridiculous Rascals 79.74-87.02)
QB Drew Brees(15.64 points)
RB LeSean McCoy(15.9 points)
RB David Johnson(7.1 points)
WR Dez Bryant(4.3 points)
WR Amari Cooper(12.2 points)
TE Jordan Reed(3.6 points)
RB DeMarco Murray(6 points)
K Justin Tucker(8 points)
DEF Seattle Seahawks(7 points)
Tailwaggerz
There's no nice way to say this: Tailwaggerz were absolutely destroyed in Week 1. In a game against Tug of War that saw the highest scoring player in the league on the bench, Tailwaggerz took a shellacking, and when the dust was settled, it was a near 30 point blowout. They weren't helped by first round pick Le'Veon Bell's dud against Cleveland, nor by Tom Brady's inability to find the end zone. This is simply one of the worst performances by any Dog League team ever, although on the positive side, there's surely nowhere to go but up from here.
Week 1 Scoring(lost to Tug of War 66.78-96.04)
QB Tom Brady(10.68 points)
RB Le'Veon Bell(4.7 points)
RB Jordan Howard(12.6 points)
WR Jordy Nelson(13.9 points)
WR Michael Thomas(4.5 points)
TE Greg Olsen(1.8 points)
RB Lamar Miller(9.6 points)
K Stephen Gostkowski(9 points)
DEF Houston Texans(0 points)
Ridiculous Rascals
It took them awhile to get going, but the Ridiculous Rascals eventually pulled away from Leaping Girl to get their first win of the season. Their two Cowboys led the way, with Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott combining for over a third of the team's production. With Odell Beckham ruled out prior to Sunday Night, the team did lose out on some star power, although Demaryius Thomas did an admirable job filling in. A big negative for this game was the bench of the Ridiculous Rascals, the lowest scoring in the league. A few more injuries could spell disaster for Rascal.
Week 1 Scoring(won against Leaping Girl 87.02-79.74)
QB Dak Prescott(17.12 points)
RB Melvin Gordon(13.9 points)
RB Ezekiel Elliott(14 points)
WR Demaryius Thomas(6.7 points)
WR Brandin Cooks(8.8 points)
TE Rob Gronkowski(3.3 points)
RB Marshawn Lynch(9.2 points)
K Matt Bryant(11 points)
DEF Denver Broncos(3 points)
Tug of War
The defending Dog League champions picked up where they left off, easily dispatching of the Tailwaggerz. This win was made even more impressive given the fact that Kareem Hunt, who put up 40 points, was left on the bench. Tug of War's trio of Falcons were underwhelming, but Todd Gurley and league leader Antonio Brown picked up the slack, more than making up the difference. Not to be understated is the contributions of Dan Bailey, who put the finishing touches on the blowout. It's also worth noting that Tug of War left an incredible 89 points on its bench, thanks to Hunt, Leonard Fournette and Aaron Rodgers. This is clearly the team to beat.
Week 1 Scoring(won against Tailwaggerz 96.04-66.78)
QB Matt Ryan(17.94 points)
RB Devonta Freeman(9.9 points)
RB Todd Gurley(15.6 points)
WR Julio Jones(6.6 points)
WR Antonio Brown(18.2 points)
TE Travis Kelce(4.4 points)
WR A.J. Green(7.4 points)
K Dan Bailey(13 points)
DEF Kansas City Chiefs(3 points)
So that does it for Week 1 of the Dog League. I'll see you again soon, when I preview Week 2.
