It's been a little while since we last check in on the Dog League, which has seen a multitude of changes in the past week in response to recent NFL injuries and other happenings. The preseason isn't over yet, so these roster may not be fully finalized for Week 1, but I figured I'd jump in and give an update now, as there's already a decent amount of ground to cover. I'll give an update on each team, though not all of them have made changes, so you can get an idea of where everyone's at right now. (Reminder: the Dog League is a custom fantasy football league run on NFL.com)
Canine Comets
The Comets have the top waiver priority in the league, but haven't had much of a reason to take advantage of it, only making one move post-draft, which was to drop Zach Moss for Ryan Tannehill. The only situation on their team that might require a respond to right now in the ankle injury suffered by starting running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, although he's still in the mix to play Week 1.
Growlers
Our other new expansion team has quickly fallen into trouble, thanks to the season-ending injury of running Travis Etienne, their fifth round pick, and recent news surrounding the status of backup quarterback Deshaun Watson, who appears to not be a major factor for the 2021 season. The Growlers had a lot of options to replace Watson, and considered the likes of Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Fields, Jameis Winston, and Trey Lance, but ultimately went for the most proven choice in Matt Ryan, who holds down the backup job behind Josh Allen for now. Replacing Etienne was trickier, as dropping him for Ronald Jones didn't provide the Growlers much confidence, as no one in the trio of Jones, David Johnson, or Javonte Williams seemed like an automatic Week 1 start. Earlier today, they found what could be the overwhelming top choice, dropping Johnson to add Damien Harris, who now looks free and clear as the lead back in New England after the Sony Michel trade. Harris is listed as the starter for the time being, although the final decision won't be made just yet.
Ridiculous Rascals
Not too much to report for Rascal thus far, just the one drop of Trey Sermon for Baker Mayfield that took place following the draft.
Tug of War
For the second year in a row, Tug of War drafted Michael Thomas high and got burned, as the Saints' star receiver finds himself on the PUP list to start the year, likely out for the first few months of the season. Thomas has made his way to the Tug of War reserves, and they used the open roster spot to add tight end Mike Gesicki, who will backup George Kittle.
Leaping Girl
Leaping Girl is one of only two teams in the league that has yet to make a waiver move, though she may need a new kicker for Week 1, with Ryan Succop on the COVID list.
Bark Force
Bark Force has had an interesting preseason, losing one of their top backs in Cam Akers to a season-ending injury, before seeing one of their other backs, James Robinson, dramatically increase in value after Etienne went down in Jacksonville. Akers was replaced by Darrell Henderson, who currently resides on the bench, behind Derrick Henry, Robinson, and J.K. Dobbins. Bark Force, now stacked at running back with those four, plus Myles Gaskin, had no need for Tony Pollard, dropping him to pickup tight end Logan Thomas, who currently backs up Dallas Goedert. They also brought in Marvin Jones, as Will Fuller was eligible for the reserves courtesy of his Week 1 suspension.
Tailwaggerz
Tailwaggerz have made one move in the preseason, dropping Greg Zuerlein to replace him with Harrison Butker at kicker. They do need to continue to monitor the health of Dak Prescott, with Matthew Stafford waiting in the wings should a Week 1 replacement be necessary.
Rare Woofs
The two-time defending Dog League Champions are the other team that hasn't made a waiver move yet, though they are keeping an eye on Julio Jones, who may not currently be at one hundred percent.
