It's the final week of the year, with three games left to go. Who will become champion, and who will increase their stock for next season? (Reminder: the Dog League is a custom fantasy football league run on NFL.com)
Fifth Place Game: #5 Ridiculous Rascals vs #6 Bark Force
The two worst teams in the league put on a game fitting of it, as these two would end up being the lowest scoring teams in the Dog League's final week. Bark Force looked absolutely dreadful early on, with D.J. Moore(1.1 points) and Tyler Lockett(2.2 points) held completely in check. Rascal lost James Conner(3.2 points) early, but recovered well, as Julio Jones(26.6 points) led the way, held up well by solid games from Ezekiel Elliott(15.4 points) and Terry McLaurin(15.6 points). In the end, Patrick Mahomes(25.44 points) and Aaron Jones(28 points) at least made it look respectable, but they were the only Bark Force players to reach double digit scoring in an embarrassing defeat. Rascal will now receive good waiver priority for next year, while Bark Force will have the worst priority in the league during preseason.
Final: Ridiculous Rascals(105.94) - Bark Force(89.04)
Third Place Game: #3 Tug of War vs #4 Tailwaggerz
Tailwaggerz came into this game solidly the underdog, but a good start from Tyler Higbee(19.4 points) and a resurgence from Alvin Kamara(29 points) gave them a chance. Unfortunately, the big guns arrived, as Saquon Barkley(43.9 points) and Michael Thomas(31.6 points) were in top form as Tug of War pulled away. Miles Sanders(26.6 points) and the Chiefs defense(15 points) attempted a comeback, but a miserable day for D.K. Metcalf(0 points) sealed Tailwaggerz' fate. Tug of War brought home their sixth playoff win and will take aim at the Dog League title next year.
Final: Tug of War(171.66) - Tailwaggerz(127.26)
Championship Game: #1 Rare Woofs vs #2 Leaping Girl
After splitting their competitive games this year, it seemed like Rare Woofs and Leaping Girl where well matched heading into the title game showdown. An auspicious start from Jameis Winston(11 points) and a good one for George Kittle(18.9 points) gave Emma some hope as Sunday began. And as the day wore on, she began to pull away, as Lamar Jackson(29.82 points), Mark Ingram(17.1 points) and DeVante Parker(22.1 points) opened up a big lead. The decision from Rare Woofs to leave Devonta Freeman(33.7 points) on the bench seemed like an extremely poor one, and momentum had completely shifted. But if there's one thing we've learned this year, it's to never count Rare Woofs out. Christian McCaffrey(32.3 points) remained stellar, but it was the late game performance of Tyler Boyd(33.8 points) that truly turned the tides. Waiver wire pickup Kenyan Drake(33.4 points) blew the game wide open, and not even a lackluster game from Amari Cooper(6.4 points) could help Emma out. Travis Kelce(21.4 points) would be the one to strike the killing blow, but Davante Adams(22.6 points) really poured it on, turning this one into a massive blowout. Leaping Girl put together a great season, but nothing was stopping Rare Woofs on this day, who avenged their title loss last year, putting together the most dominant campaign from any team in league history.
Final: Rare Woofs(175.9) - Leaping Girl(139.72)
Congratulations to Rare Woofs, your 2019 Dog League Champions!!!
Thus ends another year of the Dog League, and here's the reminder that keepers will be on for next year, as all six teams will keep their exact same rosters. There will be no draft, however I am excited to announce that the Dog League is expanding! Two new teams, the Canine Comets and the Growlers, will be joining next year, and an expansion draft was held this morning to determine their rosters. They will begin next season with said rosters, and will be given the two top spots in waiver priority to adjust as they see fit, adding rookies and the like. As a Christmas present from me, I will post the rosters on my second blog tomorrow, so you can see what each team will be working with. The day after Christmas, I'll be posting a blog update to let you know what I'll be posting in 2020 and what the status of Henry's Universe Mode is. Merry Christmas and congrats to Rare Woofs!
