The defending champions start the year off strong and Leaping Girl shocks everyone in Week 1 of the Dog League. (Reminder: the Dog League is a custom fantasy football league run on NFL.com)
Game 1: Tug of War(152.02) vs Tailwaggerz(209.82)
ANALYSIS
It's more difficult to list what didn't go right for Tailwaggerz, as last year's champions start off the campaign by becoming the first team to score over 200 points in a game. Deshaun Watson(30.72 points), David Johnson(25.7), Alvin Kamara(23.9), T.Y. Hilton(28.7), Evan Engram(28.6) and Chris Carson(24.1) were all excellent, and somehow the worst scorer was Odell Beckham(14.1). And that's not even mentioning the 81 more points they had on the bench! Tug of War was extremely unfortunate to lose this game, as they were the second highest scorers this week. They were lead by Philip Rivers(23.9 points), Keenan Allen(26.3) and Michael Thomas(22.3), though Joe Mixon(3.7) both struggled and got injured, forcing the team to look for a replacement that will likely be Derrick Henry(28.9).
Game 2: Ridiculous Rascals(97.52) vs Rare Woofs(147.64)
ANALYSIS
This was an extremely pedestrian day for Rascal, who's top scorer Julio Jones(15.1 points) was largely held in check and picked up a wrist injury. There will likely be better games in the future for last season's regular season champions, especially once Ezekiel Elliott(13.3) gets back to full speed and he gets Sammy Watkins(46.8) into the starting lineup. For Rare Woofs, it was a tale of two Panthers, as Christian McCaffrey(42.9 points) was absolutely elite and Cam Newton(5.36) was not. Dalvin Cook(26) and Amari Cooper(22.6) also provided solid outings, though Rare Woofs will really need to look into getting a new quarterback, as Baker Mayfield(9.4) fell apart in an embarrassing showing.
Game 3: Leaping Girl(151.34) vs Bark Force(128.72)
ANALYSIS
After all the talk over the drama surrounding Antonio Brown and Melvin Gordon, Leaping Girl was quietly allowed to bring Brown back on Sunday morning and proceeded to prove everyone wrong with a big win to open the year. Austin Ekeler(39.4 points) was the absolute star, more than filling the void left by Gordon and providing Emma with one of the hottest players in all of fantasy football. There are some concerns still lingering, especially over the play of Mike Evans(4.8) and the uncertainty around Brown's Patriots debut, which could be the catalyst to finally getting her team out of last place. On the other hand, Bark Force is not lacking for star power, especially from Patrick Mahomes(27.32 points) and DeAndre Hopkins(31.1), but they were lacking for any sort of follow up from the rest of the team. In general, Bark Force is extremely thin right now in terms of depth, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them make quite a few waiver moves.
