WWE 2k16 Universe Mode Week 3: Smackdown

Before we get going on the latest iteration of Universe Mode, I would like to apologize for the lack of content on my blog over the last few weeks. I've been taking a bit of a sabbatical from the blog, but hopefully we'll be back to normal schedule soon. Some other blog news: the NHL 15 GM Mode is officially cancelled, mainly due to my lack of interest. I'd like to thank everyone who read the series, and enjoyed it as much as I did. It is always open to a return, but don't get your hopes up. Also, the Domino Effect has not had anything more than that one post, and I hope to work on it soon. I've considered making that series a complete simulation, which I think will be better in the long haul. Alright, let's have some f***ing wrestling.

Universe Mode
Week 3
Smackdown
Location: New Orleans, LA

Dean Ambrose vs Austin Aries

AJ Lee(c) vs Nikki Bella- Diva's Title Match

The Hardy Boyz vs Tyson Kidd and Cesaro- Steel Cage Match for Number One Contendership

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Wade Barrett

Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan

Summary:
The third week of Smackdown, coming from New Orleans, opened with a showdown between Dean Ambrose and Austin Aries. Ambrose won the right to face the US champion last week, but Aries beat the US champ, Booker T, in non-title action. Some early offense for both men set the stage, and a brawl on the outside left Aries in the driving seat. Aries, not content with his advantage, gave Ambrose a nasty Brainbuster through the announce table. Ambrose fought back, countering an Aries move into the Dirty Deeds, but it wasn't enough to get the job done. Ambrose went for a dive to the outside, but Aries hit him on the way down with a roaring elbow. Aries got back in control, but took too long arguing with the ref after a 2 count, and Ambrose hit another Dirty Deeds for the three count. The Diva's Title was set to be defended up next, as AJ Lee took on Nikki Bella, who destroyed her sister last week for this opportunity. The challenger was more than ready for this match, scoring several near falls on the champ in the early going. AJ tried her best to get back in the match, but Nikki hit a big arm drag off the top rope, getting her the three count and the Diva's Title. These two faced off to determine the first Diva's champ in Week 1, and Nikki has gotten her redemption here in Week 3. A steel cage then lowered for a tag match with number one contendership on the line. Both teams battled it out, each coming close to escaping the cage. Tyson Kidd was the first to escape, leaving Cesaro alone in the cage. Matt Hardy followed, leaving Jeff and Cesaro to duke it out. Jeff hit a Twist of Fate and went for the Swanton, but Cesaro countered, hitting his uppercut and escaping the cage. After the match, it was announced that Kidd and Cesaro will face the Prime Time Players for the WWE Tag Title at Extreme Rules. The final preliminary match saw Shinsuke Nakamura, the new sensation, take on Wade Barrett. Shinsuke seemed determined to impress, and he did, hitting a big superplex from the top rope all the way to the floor. From that point Shinsuke was in complete control, hitting his Boma Ye knee, but somehow Barrett kicked out. Barrett dominated, coming close to winning the match, before Shinsuke rolled him up for the three. A very competitive match, but Shinsuke Nakamura won again.

Our main event was up next, featuring old rivals Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan going at it again. It was a very even match, with both hitting their signature maneuvers. Orton outsmarted Bryan, which allowed him to get a very narrow two count. A suplex off the top rope gave Bryan back momentum, and he got a two count off his big kicks before locking in the LaBell Lock. Orton lasted, forcing a rope break and then hitting an RKO, but Bryan kicked out at 2. The two traded offense again, but Orton regained the advantage, however was rolled up by Bryan. Bryan then surprised Orton, locking in a sleeper hold, which Orton couldn't find a way out of, forcing him to pass out for a shocking victory for Bryan over the former world champ. It was a very disappointing match, failing to live up to expectations and ending in only six minutes.

A horrible main event held back a otherwise show of the series caliber of performance, with Smackdown putting on a good show. Bryan's upset victory may well earn him a world title shot, we will have to wait and see. Hope you enjoyed, I once again apologize for that main event. It was actually a glitch, as I, controlling Orton, was not allowed to attempt to escape the submission. Despite that, I hope you enjoyed what was a very good night of professional wrestling.

Henry's Universe Mode #231: WrestleMania II (Part 3)

Finn Balor vs The Undertaker Finn Balor felt the full force of the strikes of The Undertaker in the early going, eating rights and lefts to the skull. The Undertaker continued to lay into Balor, dumping him to the floor with a clothesline, then following up with his vintage suicide dive! After a brief skirmish on the outside, the Deadman got destructive, grabbing the Demon's throat and driving him through the announce table with a chokeslam! It was here that The Undertaker allowed Finn Balor a chance to just give up and concede defeat, but Balor wasn't having any of it. Finn got his second wind, countering an attempted chokeslam to connect with a reverse DDT, then the shotgun dropkick in the corner. Up top, Finn connected with Coup de Grace! 1........................2.......................but it's going to take a lot more to put The Undertaker away, especially at WrestleMania. Balor laid in some shots, busting The Undertaker open, but that proved to be a huge mistake. ...

American Dad "Stompe Le Monde" Review

You know, I once tried to make it in musical theater. If only I had watched this episode beforehand, I would've known I needed a leather jacket to truly make it. Alas, those dreams are for a more pretentious soul than mine. "Stompe Le Monde" is a wild episode of American Dad, one that starts with Stan's previously unknown uncle dying and ends with wanton destruction of many Sonic Drive-Ins. It's a crazy a journey as it sounds, one that left me just struggling to keep up. The family to use the new inheritance to travel to New York City, but Stan quickly blows the money on the rights to Stomp, which is apparently a real musical. The whole town of Langley is very excited to see the new show, but Stan has no idea what he's doing, never once hiring a director or even rehearsing. Why this only came up literally minutes before opening is anyone's guess. The Smith Family is forced to go on the run, and are attacked by many ferocious coyotes off-screen. In ye...

American Dad "The Hand that Rocks the Rogu" Review

American Dad as a show is definitely not afraid to get a little freaky, and nothing is more evident than the existence of Rogu, Roger's tumor that became a character himself in "Persona Assistant". Rogu primarily works as a character because he stays in the background, but this week, he takes a starring role in one of the weirdest American Dad episodes to date. "The Hand that Rocks the Rogu" has little in the way of traditional plot structure, and can only barely be considered an episode at all. It's more a collection of funny and bizarre skits, with a few running plot points that end up forming some sort of resolution. Steve wants to become a babysitter, but Francine says he's not ready, so he needs to prove himself to her. He does that by taking care of Rogu, as Roger is off for a night of NSFW activities. Steve is instructed not to let Rogu have candy or screentime, but violates both rules almost immediately. It turns out that Rogu multiplies w...
