Can you handle this?
South Park has reached a point where they can juggle current politics with their own stories, and blend them quite well. Never before has that been more evident than in this episode. Thanks to Trump's surprise win just 24 hours before the episode hit the airwaves, Matt and Trey were forced to change content at the last moment. They did it beautifully, encapsulating a lot of the general feeling after the election whilst still pushing forward with their own version of events.
Let's start at the top. Giant Douche has just become the new President of the United States, enraging Randy, who thought he and Garrison were working together. This was all a ruse, of course it was, and it appears Garrison has been turned thanks to some sort of Member Berry splooge. I don't know how better to explain this, but it looks like the Member Berries are taking over.
Back at the school, Bill Clinton has arrived with a very special message, accompanied by a tap-dancing Bill Cosby. They are working to build Bill Clinton's Gentleman's Club, encouraging men to think more about their behavior towards women. This is, of course, also a ruse, as Bill is only doing it to avoid the wrath of his scorned wife. Plus points for all of Butters' content in this episode, as he was absolutely top notch.
Cartman was left in a bad spot last episode, worried that his secrets might be found out by quick-witted and charming Heidi. In an attempt to escape the fallout of both the election and the TrollTrace program, he convince hilarious Heidi to leave Earth altogether. Goodness knows where this will lead, but Cartman is screwed is he can't find a way to Mars.
The closest thing to a main plot in this episode is the ongoing war between the trolls and Denmark. In an effort to save the government, Turd Sandwich sends Gerald in undercover, in a James Bond-esque role. This was, of course, also a ruse, with the government striking a deal to save their country by handing the trolls over to the Danish. Gerald is the clear star of this story arc, as his character has really been benefited by getting a lot of extra air time. We leave the trolls as they are locked in a vault, getting Rickrolled until the end of time.
9/10
This was a masterful job done by Matt and Trey. Not only were they able to stay culturally relevant, they did it in a funny and insightful manner. This season has blown last season out of the water, with almost every episode being fantastic, and leaving me wanting more, which is always ideal.
