They Fight Forever
Last week's edition of SmackDown ended in a chaotic manner as Randy Orton and Cesaro brawled into the crowd. Despite security's best attempts, the brawl continued to open this episode of SmackDown, as these two men beat the hell out of each other. Eventually, officials were able to break them up, but it's clear this matter is far from resolved.
Braun Strowman vs Heath Slater
After Braun debuted, destroying Social Outcasts member Bo Dallas, the One Man Rock Band tried his hand to avenge his stable mate. Heath would get a few shots in on the monstrous Strowman, but that would be about it. A deadly nerve hold forced Slater to tap out, as Braun picked up another win.
Winner: Braun Strowman
AJ Styles Promo
The Phenomenal One, fresh off another loss to Tyson Kidd at Armageddon, entered the ring, mic in hand. He made his point very clear: he will not stop until he puts Tyson Kidd to rest, and reclaims the WWE Title. Whether you're with him, or against him, it doesn't matter. All that matters is that AJ Styles will be the face of SmackDown once more, or he will die trying.
Becky Lynch and Paige vs Alexa Bliss and Emma
SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan informed Becky that if she and Paige could win against the dysfunctional pairing of Alexa and Emma, she would receive another SmackDown Women's Title Match. However, for the champ, there was nothing on the line in this match. When the bell rang, Paige just leaped off the apron and refused to help Becky. Despite this, the Irish Lass Kicker did pretty well on her own, as Alexa and Emma's communication issues allowed Becky to get the advantage. Becky might've won the match all by herself, but when she locked in the Dis-arm-her on Alexa, Paige re-entered the ring to attack the official, drawing a disqualification.
After the match, Bryan came out to confront Paige. Although Becky had lost in the tag match, Daniel was not going to allow champion to get out of potential title matches. Next week, on SmackDown's final episode of 2016, Paige will defend her title, not against Becky Lynch, but against Alexa Bliss and Emma in a triple threat match.
Winners: Alexa Bliss and Emma
More Matches Announced for Next Week
With December drawing to a close, the Road to Wrestlemania will begin in January at the Royal Rumble. With that in mind, Raw and SmackDown announced two matches for next week, with the winners qualifying for the Rumble. After multiple requests, the Game Triple H will face the King of Strong Style, Shinsuke Nakamura, in a rematch of their bout on SmackDown a few weeks ago. And, as a result of their interaction on Raw, Samoa Joe will face Chris Jericho next Monday Night.
Six-Man Ladder Match- #1 Contender's Match for the WWE Title
The participants for this match were: the Big Show, Sheamus, one-half of Breezango, Tyler Breeze, the Social Outcasts's Curtis Axel, one-half of the tag team champions, Chad Gable, and the Big Red Machine, Kane, looking to rebound from his loss at Armageddon.
The two biggest bulls tied up immediately as Big Show and Kane went after it. The smaller men teamed together for awhile, but that was short-lived. The Celtic Warrior Sheamus just went mad, Brogue Kicking everyone in sight, including taking out both Kane and Big Show. In the end, it was Gable and Breeze, fighting atop the ladder. Gable seemed to have won it, when Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder of The Revival interfered, taking out Gable. Prince Pretty took advantage, unhooking the contract and shocking the world by earning a WWE Title shot.
As the crowd recovered after the match, Tyson Kidd came out from the back. Unlike Lesnar on Raw, he was here to congratulate Breeze and wish him luck. The King of Cuteville needs congratulations from no one, and got ready for his title match by lighting up Kidd with a Super Model Kick. He then grabbed a mic and declared that he proved with this win that Fandango has been holding him back all this time. To put it simply, Fandango is a loser and Tyler Breeze is a winner, and that will be proven next week, when Prince Pretty wins the WWE Title.
Winner: Tyler Breeze
Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews vs The Miz and Dolph Ziggler
Apollo agreed to lend a hand to help Baron get some revenge on The Miz and Ziggler for stealing the IC title at Armageddon. Crews and Corbin showed some nice tag team chemistry, putting aside their rivalry to take out SmackDown's newest force. Dolph and Miz used every trick in the book, pulling out eye rakes and chop blocks, combined with their signature cocky attitudes. Apollo showed a different side of himself, a more aggressive persona that was ultimately the changing point of the match. Apollo tagged Baron in, but Ziggler still had issues with Apollo, turning Crews' lights out with a big Super Kick. This was a big mistake, as the Lone Wolf caught the Show-Off with a Deep Six to pick up the big win.
After the match, Baron did not have any time to celebrate his win, as The Miz grabbed his IC belt and blasted Corbin in the head with it. Ziggler and Miz then escaped, losing the match but winning the war.
Winners: Baron Corbin and Apollo Crews
That's it for SmackDown. Tune it tomorrow for Main Event, and next week for the final episodes of 2016.
