Bray Wyatt vs John Cena- Champion vs Champion
Summary:
We opened this edition of Raw with the World Tag Team Champions, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, in action as they took on a mystery opponent set up by the Raw GM, which turned out to be the Briscoes! The new members of the Raw roster proved how good they were, getting the advantage over the tag champs to start the match up. They looked great as a team tagging in and out, but the champs were no push-overs, kicking out almost instantly from any pinfalls. A judgment slam for Mark Briscoe seemed to have won the Briscoes the match, but Erick Rowan interrupted the count. A Death Valley Driver for Jay again seemed to have Luke Harper down, but he intelligently rolled out of the ring. Harper tagged in Rowan, who hit his spinning heel kick, but Mark saved the match for Jay. Harper hit the Discus Clothesline, but was distracted by Mark, allowing Jay to hit a Jay Driller, but Rowan broke it up. Jay went for a second Jay Driller, but Harper countered. Mark tagged in, and Harper connected with another Discus Clothesline for the victory. A Raw rematch from last week saw Trish Stratus and Kelly Kelly go head to head once more. Kelly was feisty and ready for a signature win after winning by dubious means last week, and took the fight to the Women's champ. Trish displayed her nasty side, poking Kelly in the eye to regain the advantage. Trish hit her headscissors off the top rope, but Kelly kicked out, and kipped up before hitting her own running headscissors for a 2 count. The ring could no longer contain the pair, as they worked their way outside. From there, Kelly dropped the champ with a K2 on the concrete and rolled back into the ring, scoring a count out victory. While it wasn't decisive once again, it was another victory for Kelly over the Women's champ, and the Raw GM declared that she was now the number one contender. Trish had to be helped up the ramp, and something tells me she's about ready to tear Kelly apart. The Undertaker was scheduled to be in action against the Big Guy Ryback, but as Taker made his entrance, he was ambushed by his own brother Kane, who was upset after Taker was pinned at Extreme Rules and last week on Raw. He destroyed the Phenom, hitting him with a steel chair and a sledgehammer and bashing his head off the steel posts. He finished off the assault with a Tombstone Piledriver on the concrete floor. Officials had to pull the Big Red Machine off and assist Taker, who wasn't moving and had to be stretchered out of the arena. A truly horrifying assault from Kane, who appears to want to go it alone.
Our final preliminary match saw Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, a very reluctant tag team, forced to team up to face D-Generation X. Reigns and Rollins, two former members of the Shield, squared last week in Raw's main event in a match that ended in a double count-out. The question was whether they could work together and the answer early on was no. Rollins refused to tag in Reigns and was attacked from behind by Triple H. Rollins fought back and this time made the tag, as Reigns went on a wild fury. Again, trust issues formed and Michaels took advantage of the distraction, but Reigns got back to his corner and consented, tagging in Rollins. Rollins looked for the Phoenix Splash, but Triple H got out of the way. Triple H then countered a body slam attempt by Rollins, and he and Michaels combined for the X Marks the Spot finisher, but Reigns broke the count. Reigns was finally tagged in, and hit some big moves to Michaels and Triple H. After Reigns turned the tide, he and Rollins combined for an impressive duo manuever, with Reigns hit a hurricarana off the top rope into a Rollins powerbomb on Triple H. Rollins then hit the curb stomp and Reigns speared Michaels off the apron for the victory. Enemies last week, winner this week for Rollins and Reigns, and we'll have to see what the future holds for the pair. The main event of this episode of Raw was a Champion vs Champion match, as World Heavyweight Champion Bray Wyatt took on Intercontinental Champion John Cena. Both men wanted a signature win in the main event of Raw, and struggled for control early on, but two consecutive cheap shots from Bray Wyatt gave him the early edge. A focus on the head was an early part of Cena's offense, hoping to disorient the World champion. Some early covers all got Cena a few 2 counts, but only seemed to anger Wyatt. Wyatt fought back, hitting a few big slams that Cena just shook off. They brawled to the outside, and Cena took down Wyatt on the floor, rolling back into the ring and getting a second to breathe, which would prove vital. As Wyatt re-entered the ring, Cena, with extra vigor, planted him with a gutwrench suplex before hitting the five-knuckle shuffle. Cena then set up and connected with the AA, which kept Wyatt down a surprisingly easy victory, continuing to prove that it only takes one AA from John Cena to put you down.
A dominating display from John Cena in the main event ends this episode of Raw. The Raw GM announced on the WWE website that next week on Raw, the main event will be Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns facing Luke Harper and Erick Rowan for the World Tag Team Titles. Tune into Raw next week for that exciting match and much more!
