Royal Rumble
January 26th, 2020
Location: Phoenix, AZ
You know SmackDown GM Edge had to be very upset at this opening, two of his bigger threats to win drawing the first two spots. Dain was here representing tag champions SAnitY, while Gargano has been a frequent world title contender in the past. "Johnny Wrestling" was certainly at a significant disadvantage here, and it was all he could do to just hold on against the bigger man...
Entrant #3- Andrade "Cien" Almas
Another entrant from SmackDown, the former Intercontinental Champion Andrade Almas who qualified for this match by defeating Rusev thanks to interference from Zelina Vega. Andrade did his best to help Gargano battle Dain, but "The Beast of Belfast" had none of it, and eliminated "El Idolo". Gargano continued to stave off elimination...
Entrant #4- Mark Henry
Our first surprise entrant of the match, it's "The World's Strongest Man" Mark Henry! The two big men formed an unspoken alliance, and now Gargano was facing insurmountable odds. Mark quickly got his first elimination, powerslamming Gargano to the floor. As Dain celebrated, Henry then ended that partnership, and tossed Killian out too! Henry was now all alone...
Entrant #5- Booker T
Booker had no fear, and went right after Mark, but neither man would be eliminated...
Entrant #6- Shawn Michaels
It's our third surprise entrant in a row, and it might be the biggest name yet, as the "Heart-Break Kid" Shawn Michaels entered the fray! Michaels and Booker teamed up to go after Henry, and though Mark fought them off once, a Sweet Chin Music from HBK would send him toppling to the floor...
Entrant #7- Drew Gulak
The technical wrestler Drew Gulak was a bit out of place in this ring, though he showed some fire, out-wrestling Michaels on the mat. But Booker caught him flush with a superkick of his own, and Gulak fell to the floor. Booker and Shawn now squared up, and it was Booker who came out ahead, knocking Shawn out of the ring when he attempted to skin the cat...
Entrant #8- Mike Kanellis
Could the Power of Love carry Mike Kanellis all the way to a Royal Rumble victory? Probably not, as he just walked right into an Axe Kick and a Book End...
Entrant #9- Randy Orton
But Kanellis would get his revenge with help from "The Viper" Randy Orton, as he and Orton teamed up to toss out Booker to a chorus of boos from Phoenix after a really solid run. Orton looked to immediately take care of Kanellis with an RKO, but Mike managed to counter, and shockingly clotheslined Orton to the floor!
Entrant #10- Bobby Lashley
Kanellis was now the fan favorite in an obvious underdog situation against Bobby Lashley, but it didn't go particularly well. Lashley hit the Dominator, and then tossed Mike to the outside for a quick elimination...
Entrant #11- Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens is certainly a man unafraid of a fight, and went right after Lashley, scoring with rights and lefts. But Bobby powered through, hitting Owens with a vertical suplex and another Dominator, before tossing him out...
Entrant #12- Adam Cole
The former United States Champion was next to have a try at taking out Lashley. Cole actually fared pretty well, coming close to eliminating Bobby a couple times...
Entrant #13- Pete Dunne
Here's a man Adam Cole is very familiar with, "The Bruiserweight" Pete Dunne. Cole was able to take down Lashley with the Last Shot, but Dunne would get his revenge on Adam, delivering a devastating forearm that sent him toppling to the floor. Dunne would pick the scraps of Cole's work, eliminating Lashley as well to a big cheer...
Entrant #14- Christian
Our fourth surprise entrant of the match is "Captain Charisma", Christian! He paused upon entering the ring, giving those with flash photography a good five second pose, then got hit with a Bitter End! But Christian was able to stave off elimination...
Entrant #15- Aleister Black
Halfway through now, as here is a man intent on revenge against "The Fiend", it's former Universal Champion Aleister Black. Dunne continued his rampage, hitting Christian with an X-Plex and Black with another Bitter End, though he couldn't eliminate either man...
Entrant #16- Kenny Omega
The current United States Champion entered, while Black ended Christian's night, tossing him out. As Omega made his way into the ring, passing by a disappointed Christian, he was suddenly set upon by Adam Cole! Perhaps out of revenge or maybe just out of frustration, Cole was all over the man who took his title, smashing his head repeatedly off the ring post. He rolled Kenny into the ring, and Black took advantage, hitting Omega with a Black Mass and quickly tossing him back out for his second elimination...
Entrant #17- John Cena
That left Black and Dunne in the ring, to be joined by the "Doctor of Thuganomics". An interesting trio, but no eliminations during this two minutes...
Entrant #18- Mustafa Ali
We now had two men from Monday and Friday nights, with Black and Dunne from and Cena and Ali from SmackDown. They fought against each other, and Aleister was able to eliminate Pete, getting his third tally...
Entrant #19- Otis Dozovic
Representing Heavy Machinery and NXT, it's Otis! He flexed and stared down with John Cena. The two muscleheads slammed into each once, twice, thrice, but neither gave ground. Cena looked to hit an F-U, but couldn't quite lift Otis, who yelled out "Steaks and Weights, oh yeah!" and then tossed John Cena out of the Royal Rumble! Otis then squared up to Aleister, but Black was having none of it, and just hit Dozovic with a Black Mass and tossed him out...
Entrant #20- Hiroshi Tanahashi
Arguably the two biggest favorites from Raw faced off, Aleister Black versus Hiroshi Tanahashi. Black won the strike exchange, hitting Tanahashi with a Black Mass, but he forgot about Mustafa Ali. The former Cruiserweight Champion leaped from the top, wrapped his legs around Black and sent him to the floor with a hurricanrana! Now Ali went toe to toe with Tanahashi, a massive underdog, but Mustafa had never put much stock in odds. He countered the dragon suplex, caught Tanahashi with an enziguri, and tossed him out! What a fantastic double elimination for Mustafa Ali, a true star making performance...
Entrant #21- Jinder Mahal
Ali showed no fear going against the bigger man, but Jinder was fresher, and was able to win the first exchange, dropping Ali with a running knee. Mahal then struck a mighty pose, honoring his own greatness....................and Ali shoved him over the top rope to the floor!
Entrant #22- The Rock
The Rock, for once, may not be the "People's Champion" after the run Mustafa Ali has been on. Phoenix was in Ali's corner, cheering him on as he wrestled rings around the slower Rock, though he did get taken down with a Samoan Drop...
Entrant #23- Finn Balor
Balor and Ali quickly formed a partnership, wanting the glory of taking The Rock out of the Royal Rumble. But both men would be taken down by "The Great One", who looked for the ultra rare double People's Elbow. As Rocky hit the ropes, Ali and Balor sprung to their feet, and delivered a double superkick to end The Rock's night! A great moment, but quickly ruined by Finn, who tossed Ali to the floor right after, to the great disappointment of the crowd. Balor shrugged while boos rained down- it is every man for himself after all.
Entrant #24- Braun Strowman
Hell yeah! Braun Strowman and Finn Balor meet again, a re-visiting of 2017's Feud of the Year. Braun was immediately dominant, slamming Finn from pillar to post, looking his old championship self. But Finn Balor was also a great champion at one point, and showed, somehow lifting Strowman off his feet and suplexing him to the floor!
Entrant #25- Buddy Murphy
Ireland now meets Australia, as Finn Balor squared off with Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy. Buddy had just been through a title defense against Pentagon Jr the previous night on NXT Takoever, and it showed, as he was just a step or two behind Finn, who took advantage, taking Buddy out for another elimination...
Entrant #26- Eric Young
The other half of SAnitY had gotten a much luckier draw than Killian Dain, as Young faced a tiring Finn Balor. EY countered the 1916, and clotheslined Finn to the floor...
Entrant #27- Tyler Breeze
Two very different personalities faced off here, as Tyler Breeze, the former two-time WWE Champion, was able to avoid the majority of Young's power game...
Entrant #28- Batista
It's the final of our surprise entrants, "The Animal" Batista! Batista squared off with Breeze, who knew he couldn't trade blows with this monster of a man. Instead, Breeze used his smarts, staying by the ropes. When Batista charged in, Breeze pulled down the top rope, and Batista fell to the floor, totally humiliated. Breeze would pay for that trick though, as Young tossed "Prince Pretty" out a minute or so later...
Entrant #29- Samoa Joe
The winner of the 2017 Royal Rumble wasted no time, absorbing a few blows from Young before tossing him to the floor. Joe was fresh and ready to go for a big-time showdown. The crowd began to buzz as the final entrant was ready...
Entrant #30- Drew McIntyre
Here we go ladies and gentleman, a clash of the titans and was also a rematch from Backlash 2018, just like the women's final two. McIntyre was in a foul mood after he and Dolph Ziggler lost in a tag title match with SAnitY on the go-home SmackDown, and this fight was everything you could've hoped in would be. The two men met in the middle of the ring, fists flying, and it was Drew that won the early exchange, headbutting Joe right in the forehead. Joe was busted open, but fired right back with a headbutt of his own, before lifting Drew off his feet to hit a uranage! Joe used all his remaining strength to lift Drew to the top rope, before setting up for the Muscle Buster. But McIntyre wiggled his way free, and landed on his feet. As Joe turned around, McIntyre caught him with the Claymore! Drew grabbed hold of Joe's head, and tossed him out of the ring! Drew McIntyre has done it again! The "Scottish Terminator" is heading to WrestleMania IV!
Winner: Drew McIntyre
