Henry's Universe Mode #21: Smackdown

Welcome back to Henry's Universe Mode. I begin this post by informing you of another format change, this time in displaying the results of matches. The effect should become apparent shortly. I think this new format should shorten the posts, which have been a little too long, and also make it a lot easier to read the match summaries them selves.

Before this episode gets underway, Smackdown's own pay-per-view, Judgment Day, which will take place, in Universe and in real life, on May 22nd. Smackdown GM Teddy Long announced that at Judgment Day, the semi main event will see Dean Ambrose defend the United States Title against Booker T in a 30-minute long Iron Man match. The winner of tonight's main event, featuring Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan, will be named the number one contender to the WWE title, and will take on The Rock at Judgment Day.

The New Day vs Tyson Kidd and Cesaro- WWE Tag Team Titles #1 Contender's Match

With Xavier barred from ringside, The New Day and Tyson Kidd and Cesaro did battle for number one contendership. Both teams went to war early on, with Kingston and Kidd going at it. Kidd distracted Kingston to get Cesaro into the match, but it backfired, as Kofi connected with SOS, but couldn't put Cesaro away. Cesaro rallied, hitting a big suplex and nearly pinning Kofi, but Big E made sure no pinfall was counted. In the end, Kofi scored the victory on the Swiss Superman with a big elbow drop to become number one contenders.

Winners: The New Day

Batista vs Santino Marella

Also announced by Teddy Long was a fatal four way match to determine the new WWE Title number one contender at Judgment Day. This was the first of four qualifying matches, as the Animal, Batista, made his Smackdown debut against the Milan Miracle, Santino Marella. Batista was raring to go, taking down Santino as he made his entrance. Batista was in no mood to play games, and Santino simply couldn't keep pace. One Batista Bomb later, and the match was over before it could even begin, as Batista punched his ticket to Judgment Day.

Winner: Batista

The Bella Twins vs Natalya and AJ Lee

The Bellas attempted to work out their differences, as they took on Natalya and AJ Lee. It's worth noting that Nikki introduced the new Women's World Title, as the Diva's Title was finally trashed. Nattie and AJ worked very well together in the early going, but despite increasing odds, Nikki refused to tag in her sister. Eventually, Nikki finally went for the tag, but Brie, fed up, instead lept off the apron. With the odds against her, and her sister walking out on the match, Nikki was overwhelmed and tapped to Natalya's Sharpshooter. After the match, Teddy Long declared he'd seen enough of this petty rivalry- at Judgment Day, Nikki would defend her new title against Natalya and her own sister Brie, in a triple threat match!

Winners: Natalya and AJ Lee

Kevin Owens vs Rusev

The second qualifying match for the fatal four way at Judgment Day saw Kevin Owens take on the Bulgarian Brute, Rusev, who interestingly enough, did not have Lana by his side in this important match. Owens talked a lot of trash early on, and seemed to be in control, but made a big mistake as he attempted his diving cannonball, which Rusev easily dodged. They traded offense on the outside, with Rusev back in control. He attempted the Accolade, which Owens countered, hitting a Pop-Up Powerbomb, but somehow Rusev kicked out. Owens got back in control, this time connecting on the cannonball and hitting another Powerbomb, but again Rusev kicked out. Rusev took back control, nearly putting away Owens a few times. A big shoulder tackle set up a comeback for KO, who hit the Powerbomb for the third time, and for the third time, Rusev kicked out. Frustrated, Owens threw Rusev to the outside, and drove him through the announce table with a Package Piledriver, and astonishingly, Rusev managed to get up and beat the count. A man can only survive so long, and when a fourth Powerbomb connected, the match was finally over. A match of the year candidate saw Kevin Owens move on the fatal four way match at Judgment Day.

Winner: Kevin Owens

Randy Orton vs Daniel Bryan- Unsanctioned Match

Randy Orton and Daniel Bryan finally settled their differences in an unsanctioned match in this week's Smackdown main event. This was going to be a vicious match, and it got going right away, as both men brawled on the outside. Orton embraced the physicality and vicious style, but Bryan couldn't adapt, taking shot after shot from steel chairs, kendo sticks and sledgehammers. None of it could put Bryan away, however, so Orton went to drastic measures, setting up a table, lying Bryan's prone body across it, climbing to the top rope and hitting a big splash to put both men through the table on the outside. Orton continued to dominate, nearly putting Bryan away on several occasions, but couldn't quite get the job done. Bryan turned the tables, hitting a superplex followed by a diving headbutt, but it was Orton's turn to kick out. As Bryan got to his feet, looking to put Orton away with his big knee, the Viper struck, hitting an RKO out of nowhere to score a big victory to close out Smackdown. Orton and Rock stared down after the match, and the main event of Judgment Day is now set, as the two men square off for the WWE Title.

Winner: Randy Orton

American Dad "Twinanigans" Review

It's been a while since the last Steve and Roger episode, and this week reminded me why that's such a classic American Dad pairing. This is a genuinely fun episode, filled with some great one liners and even a great callback to the show's past. "Twinanigans" centers around the heretofore unmentioned acting careers of Roger and Steve, who twinned it up as the Smith Brothers. I'm not going to question whether this backstory actually makes sense to the overall timeline; no one watches American Dad for continuity. Steve had to give up acting to attend kindergarten, and wants to give Roger a second chance at greatness. The two head to auditions, where Steve impresses and Roger blows it. It's here the episode kinda misfires, as it's never made abundantly clear why Roger struggles so much at acting. Is he just trying too hard, does he have some form of stage fright, does he not even know what acting is? This part of the story is just never explained, w...

Henry's Pay-Per-View Reviews: ECW Heatwave 1998

As the world collectively loses it's mind over the coronavirus(this could be a fun intro to look back on in the future), the only sanity that can be found is in the ring. Let's take a look today at what is often considered ECW's finest outing, Heatwave '98. - Jokes aside, everyone should stay safe out there. I know it's easy to panic about these mass outbreaks, and I've certainly felt very nervous about everything I've heard and read over the past week. But I think we all need some fun in our lives right now, and this show is the epitome of distraction. - The opening contest is one of the highlights of the night, as Jerry Lynn takes on Justin Credible. Credible has an entire entourage in his corner, including Chastity, Jason and Nicole Bass, and their involvement in this match at times bordered on excessive. But the match begins to hit it's peak when Lynn puts Credible through a table with a hurricanrana, and it's all fantastic from...

Curious Crab

One Monday night my mom looked into my crabitat and found that a crab had climbed into one of my fake trees. It was in the top branch. I looked in later, and found that the crab had fallen out of the tree. I hope he is okay. What a day!
