Welcome to the second and final part of my breakdown of the 2017 Dog League Draft. In this part, it's last year's championship game reborn, as we feature the Ridiculous Rascals and defending champions Tug of War. Let's get to it.
Ridiculous Rascals(Season Prediction: 1st)
1st Round, 3rd Overall- RB Ezekiel Elliott- Grade: A
2nd Round, 6th Overall- WR Odell Beckham- Grade: B+
3rd Round, 11th Overall- RB Melvin Gordon- Grade: B
4th Round, 14th Overall- RB Jay Ajayi- Grade: A
5th Round, 19th Overall- TE Rob Gronkowski- Grade: C
6th Round, 22nd Overall- WR Brandin Cooks- Grade: B-
7th Round, 27th Overall- QB Andrew Luck- Grade: B+
8th Round, 30th Overall- DEF Denver Broncos- Grade: C+
9th Round, 35th Overall- K Matt Bryant- Grade: B
10th Round, 38th Overall- RB Marshawn Lynch- Grade: B-
11th Round, 43rd Overall- RB Christian McCaffrey- Grade: D
12th Round, 46th Overall- WR Demaryius Thomas- Grade: B
13th Round, 51st Overall- WR Sammy Watkins- Grade: B-
14th Round, 54th Overall- RB Isiah Crowell- Grade: C
15th Round, 59th Overall- TE Tyler Eifert- Grade: B
Summary:
Say hello to your new favorites. Last year's runner ups have built a hell of a team, that is loaded in every single position. That running back corps is seriously dangerous, with Elliott, Gordon and Ajayi all poised for big years. There were some questionable picks though, including injury prone Rob Gronkowski in the fifth round and the returning Marshawn Lynch, which seems to be an unnecessary pick. But there is no doubt in my mind that this is the most talented team I have ever seen, and should be on the fast track to their first title.
Tug of War(Season Prediction: 3rd)
1st Round, 4th Overall- WR Antonio Brown- Grade: B
2nd Round, 5th Overall- WR Julio Jones- Grade: A
3rd Round, 12th Overall- WR A.J. Green- Grade: B-
4th Round, 13th Overall- RB Devonta Freeman- Grade: A
5th Round, 20th Overall- RB Todd Gurley- Grade: B
6th Round, 21st Overall- QB Aaron Rodgers- Grade: A+
7th Round, 28th Overall- TE Travis Kelce- Grade: B
8th Round, 29th Overall- DEF Kansas City Chiefs- Grade: B+
9th Round, 36th Overall- K Dan Bailey- Grade: B-
10th Round, 37th Overall- RB Leonard Fournette- Grade: C-
11th Round, 44th Overall- RB Carlos Hyde- Grade: C+
12th Round, 45th Overall- RB Spencer Ware- Grade: B+
13th Round, 52nd Overall- WR Terrelle Pryor- Grade: B
14th Round, 53rd Overall- WR Jarvis Landry- Grade: C
15th Round, 60th Overall- QB Matt Ryan- Grade: A
Summary:
In terms of value by round, Tug of War had the absolute best draft. They picked their guys when they needed to pick them, for the most part, and stayed with a lot of safe options. They did take some chances on guys like Green and Kelce, both coming off of injury and surgery respectively. This team is loaded at receiver, take Antonio Brown and Julio Jones in the first two rounds, before getting solid depth later in Pryor and Landry. The running game is a question mark: beyond Freeman, there isn't a guaranteed option, with Todd Gurley coming off a poor year, and young guys like Fournette and Ware yet to establish themselves. Finally, let's talk about their quarterbacks, in plural, because Tug of War was the only team to draft a back-up. Rodgers and Ryan is a scary duo and should be able to spell each other during their bye weeks. Taking fantasy football's best scorer in the Packers signal-caller in the sixth round also earned Tug of War the only A+ grade of the draft.
There you have it. These are the 2017 Dog League rosters. I will join you once more at the start of September to preview Week 1, and analyze any moves made in the mean time. Until then, take care.
