Opportunity. The chance for fame, for glory, for a spot in our eternal history. Opportunity is fleeting, and only ever knocks once in a lifetime. When it arrives, you must seize, because there will never be another chance. Tonight, opportunity is knocking. A chance at fame, a chance at glory is waiting, waiting for the worthy to seize it. To hold on tight and never let go. Tonight, six men will climb the ladder, with stardom tantalizingly within reach. For most, their journey will end in failure, in the agony of defeat that many have tasted before. For one, tonight is only the beginning.
And now, SmackDown presents.............................Money in the Bank!
Earlier this month, we saw Paige complete the Triple Crown when she won Raw's Women's Championship, and now Bayley was looking to follow in her NXT rival's footsteps. She was fired up and determined like never before, and Charlotte seemed to have no answer. The Queen would try to fire up numerous times, but Bayley stopped each one, including dodging a Spear. Charlotte did manage to counter a Bayley-to-Belly attempt, but fell prey to a big exploder in the corner. Bayley then climbed to the top rope and delivered a gorgeous elbow drop that kept Charlotte down for three, crowning a new champion.
Winner and the NEW SmackDown Women's Champion: Bayley
The Wyatt Family(c) vs Gallows and Anderson- SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
The Club, with two big matches on the night, decided to divide and conquer, with Gallows and Anderson battling on their own in this match. This was a big mistake, as the Wyatt Family controlled the match with their man advantage. The challengers did their best, even connecting with a Magic Killer to Bray, only for the patriarch of the Family to get his shoulder up. That was The Club's best shot, and from there it was elementary. Sister Abigail to Luke Gallows and a three count later, and it was another retention for the champs.
Winners and still SmackDown Tag Team Champions: The Wyatt Family
Randy Orton(c) vs Sami Zayn- Intercontinental Championship Match
After putting on a classic on SmackDown Live just a few weeks ago, there was no feeling out process between these two men. They both just went at it, determined to prove once and for all just who the better man is. Early on, it was Sami Zayn, with fire and passion, who took to the skies to keep the champion down. He showed no fear in his offense, but perhaps that was a mistake, as he whiffed on a few big moves. The Viper kept his methodical pace, showing no signs of worry. He took down the challenger multiple times, all leading up to the RKO, right on the button. It was here that things went crazy, because leaping out of the crowd and over the barricade was Baron Corbin. He laid out Orton with an End of Days, taking out the man that put him on the shelf. The official called for the bell, and it took several more men to restrain Corbin and escort him from the building.
Winner: Randy Orton
The Miz vs Kenny Omega vs Tye Dillinger vs John Cena vs Big Cass vs Fandango- Money in the Bank Ladder Match
We thought the madness had ended there as we moved on to our Money in the Bank Ladder Match, but the surprises weren't over yet. We then received word that Fandango had been taken out backstage, and now Tyler Breeze had been added to the match. So Tyler Breeze, who wasn't even supposed to be here, now had a chance to grab the briefcase for himself. Early on though, all eyes were on Big Cass. All five men went after the seven-footer, but even their combined efforts weren't enough at the start. He took out everyone, but took to long climbing the ladder and was caught by John Cena. The Face That Runs the Place got some payback, delivering an Attitude Adjustment from the top of the ladder in a big highlight. From there, it was every man for himself, as they all took turns trying to unhook the briefcase. It was Kenny Omega that came the closest, nearly winning the match a few times. Cass then re-entered with a fury, sending Omega and Dillinger off the ladder and taking out Miz and Cena with a double powerslam. But when he wasn't paying attention, Tyler Breeze scaled the ladder, and before anyone could react, retrieved the briefcase. We have our first Mr. Money in the Bank, and he didn't even qualify for the match.
Winner: Tyler Breeze
AJ Styles(c) vs Triple H- WWE Championship Match
You could tell from the start that this was no ordinary championship match. There was hell in the eyes of the Game, who went to work from the ring of the bell. Although it was Triple H that made things personal, AJ Styles is not the type of guy to lay down and get beaten up. Pretty quickly, this match devolved into a fight, that saw both guys not even trying to win. It was Triple H that struck a huge blow when he Pedigreed Styles through the announcer's desk, but AJ responded in kind back in the ring with a Phenomenal Forearm. Back and forth it went, until the challenger connected with another Pedigree, but that wouldn't be enough. From there, it was all Triple H, as he bloodied the forehead of the champion. Say what you want about him, but AJ Styles has some serious amounts of heart, as he showed when he kicked out of yet another Pedigree. Fed up and seeing red, the Cerebral Assassin fetched the ultimate equalizer: the sledgehammer. He didn't get a chance to use his signature weapon, as Styles nearly knocked him unconscious with a Pele Kick. A second Phenomenal Forearm connected, but AJ wanted to put things away for good. He delivered a Styles Clash to the previously injured neck to finally end this bloody, brutal contest. Both men will bear permanent damage from this fight, but only one man walked out champion, and he is truly Phenomenal.
Winner and still WWE Champion: AJ Styles
