Cloak & Dagger "Princeton Offense" Review

You know things are getting serious when the Princeton offense is in the title, and even more serious when a basketball invades a party. Seriously, you guys didn't have a beachball to toss around while chanting for CM Punk? F***ing amateurs. Let's start with Tyrone, who still kinds feels like he's off in B-plot land. After a conversation with Detective O'Reilly, Tyrone focuses his attention on the state championship game, with his story taking a bit of a lighter tone. Of course, he also ends up discovering that one of Billy's old friends is partners in the drug trade with Detective Connors, because this show is bleak. He's also progressing his relationship with Evita, and I'll give them a less than zero percent chance of surviving the next few episodes. After noticing some racial/social injustice during the game, Tyrone throws the game, almost literally, showing that he does have a sense of honor. His powers also run haywire throughout, causing all ki...

Henry's Universe Mode: Armageddon Preview

2017 was a big year for Henry's Universe Mode, and as we move forward into 2018, we have one final stop to make. Here is the card for Armageddon, the final pay-per-view of the year. Armageddon Card Nia Jax(c) vs Bayley- SmackDown Women's Championship Match On the SmackDown Live before Survivor Series, Nia Jax once again defeated Alexa Bliss in Bliss' rematch clause, winning again in mere minutes. Jax is eager to take full control of SmackDown's women's division, and demanded more competition. She'll get it in the form of the Triple Crown champion, Bayley, who has the fans on her side as she looks to add another championship to her collection. Shinsuke Nakamura(c) vs Dolph Ziggler- United States Championship Match Tensions between Shinsuke Nakamura and Dolph Ziggler escalated at Survivor Series, and have continued in the weeks following. On an episode of Raw a few weeks ago, the two men interrupted an address from Shane McMahon, leading to a furi...

Henry's Universe Mode #220: Survivor Series(Part 2)

In Part 2 of 2018's Survivor Series, the WWE and Universal Championships are both on the line, and Team Raw faces Team SmackDown. Finn Balor(c) vs Samoa Joe vs Braun Strowman- Universal Championship Match Samoa Joe was a house of fire early, as he was incredibly fresh, having not competed in a match since September. After taking out Finn Balor with a german suplex, Joe turned his attention to Braun Strowman, hitting an impressive series of strikes. None of this did much to faze Strowman, as he easily lifted up Joe with a gorilla press before slamming him back down. Balor returned armed with a steel chair and shifted the momentum in his favor, getting a couple near falls on Strowman with a reverse DDT and the shotgun dropkick. Braun would take Finn out with a right hand, looking twice for the running powerslam on Joe, but The Destroyer was a step too fast. After escaping the second powerslam attempt, Samoa Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch! The deadly hold was broken up by t...

Henry's Universe Mode #219: Survivor Series(Part 1)

Tradition is everything. In the WWE, a new tradition was started on November 26th, 1987, with the very first Survivor Series event. On that night, fans witnessed legends like Jake Roberts, Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, Harley Race, Andre the Giant and Hulk Hogan collide in titanic battles, and a new yearly tradition was born. Now, each year, the tradition continues, as legends of yesteryear and superstars of the future collide in combat, each hoping to be the last man standing. Tonight, Raw and SmackDown face off for brand supremacy, with the winning team earning their brand the number 30 spot in the Royal Rumble. Both world championships are on the line, and the card is stacked. Tradition is everything, and perhaps someday, we will honor this night in the same way we did the one over 3 decades ago. And now, Raw and SmackDown present.............Survivor Series! Universe Mode Survivor Series November 26th, 2017 Location: Miami, FL Official Survivor Series Theme...

Cloak & Dagger "Call/Response" Review

Hey, the two main characters actually spend some time together this week. Hooray! I mean, their conversation did end with one of them daring the other to kill herself, but it's progress. But damn, this show is dark, and getting even darker. Picking up where last week left off, we see Tandy and Tyrone having their first proper conversation, in the church where Tandy takes drugs and chills in a hoodie. In a unique twist, this whole conversation is a framing device for the entire episode, with splices of the conversation popping up here and there through the hour. Right from the start, the chemistry between these two is obvious, and the amount of time the show has spent setting the two characters up pays off. There's some enjoyable banter back and forth, and some nice references to their first meeting, but you can tell that there's a bit more of a bond forming. Tandy and Tyrone have found a connection in each other, someone who understands their pain and feels just as l...

Money in the Bank 2018 Recap

Money in the Bank is a consistently fun part of the WWE calendar, and this looks to be a pretty good card tonight, with a mostly entertaining build-up. Let's do this! Money in the Bank 2016 Score: 8/10 Money in the Bank 2017 Score: 6/10 - I can't say I was particularly looking forward to Daniel Bryan/Big Cass, but they did pretty well. Daniel Bryan clearly still has it, and Cass was surprisingly good, so this was a fun little opener. But the problem here is that this supposed "monster" tapping out twice in a row doesn't make him look great, and the feud in general has done very little to help him out.  - Hey, Sami Zayn and Bobby Lashley wrestled on this show. A feud involving cross-dressers and obstacle courses was settled by a vertical suplex, because of course it was.  - I'm not sure Seth Rollins is actually capable of having a bad match, but this was pretty far from it. He had what has to be considered Elias' best match, wi...

NXT Takeover: Chicago Recap

I normally don't watch Takeovers live, but this show was a rare exception, although it may not be going forward. Here's my recap of NXT's return to the Windy City. - Goddammit, Chicago. A really fun, electric opening tag match featuring some incredible work by Oney Lorcan(did you see that bump on the apron?), was partially held back, especially at the start, by an intentionally smarky crowd. Look, a hot crowd is great, and really adds to any match. I suppose the fact that I had to think about the crowd reaction during a match this good is the biggest negative, really. - Certainly, there was a lot of hype surrounding Velveteen Dream vs Ricochet, and to a certain extent, I thought they lived up to it. If there's something to improve, I thought there was a little too much trading of big moves, although I thought they nailed the psychology during the finishing stretch. While this was certainly great, and extremely fun to watch, I would love to see this again down ...

Cloak & Dagger "Stained Glass" Review

We return for a second week of Cloak & Dagger with the third episode, "Stained Glass". Good news, we're actually getting some interaction between the two main characters! Bad news, the episode is still heavily centered around visions and scenes in different dimensions, with plenty of seemingly needless filler. But hey, it's a start. Picking off where episode two ended, we see Tyrone almost murders Tandy, which is the most American Dad start to a relationship ever. I'm still not sure how this teleportation thing works or what the rules are, so if somebody could fill me in, that would be much appreciated. The two leads are unfortunately still mostly on their own, but there's a least a tangible connection between their stories this week. Tandy pays a visit to her mother, who still doesn't seem to give a sh** about her, and discovers that a detective is investigating her attempted rape/light dagger stabbing. Meanwhile, Tyrone is involved in voodoo r...

Cloak & Dagger "First Light" + "Suicide Sprints" Reviews

As always, I'm constantly looking for new content for my blog, so I decided to check out Marvel's newest superhero series, "Cloak & Dagger". Covering a show from the very start is quite nice, since I won't have to worry about trying to give any backstory to new viewers. So let's just dive right in. Since I'm covering two episodes in one post, I'm going to be a bit brief in my discussion for each one. Let's start with "First Light" , the pilot episode of the series. One of the frequent criticisms I saw for the show in the advance screenings was the pacing, how long it took the show to find its feet. That's definitely something I noticed in this episode; a few scenes can drag, and it was a little difficult for me to maintain interest throughout. Ultimately, the success of this show will depend less on writing and overall direction, and more on the likability of their two main characters, Tandy Bowen/Dagger and Tyrone Johnson/Clo...

Henry's Universe Mode: Survivor Series Preview

As we near the end of the second year of Henry's Universe Mode, the final Big Four event will see two world championship matches and a massive main event. Let's breakdown the card for Survivor Series 2017. Survivor Series Preview The Shield(c) vs The Revival- Raw Tag Team Championship Match A match that was confirmed back at Halloween Havoc, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder will challenge for the Raw Tag Team Championships. Right away, it was noted that The Revival would be at a disadvantage going against The Shield, with the champions holding the numbers game. This was until the go-home show, when the challengers unveiled their secret weapon: the legendary enforcer, Arn Anderson! With a legendary name in tag team wrestling in their corner, can The Revival bring home the tag team championships? Becky Lynch(c) vs Sasha Banks- Raw Women's Championship Match After retaining her championship against Tamina and then Mickie James, Becky Lynch has been on a roll on Mo...
