Cloak & Dagger "Stained Glass" Review

We return for a second week of Cloak & Dagger with the third episode, "Stained Glass". Good news, we're actually getting some interaction between the two main characters! Bad news, the episode is still heavily centered around visions and scenes in different dimensions, with plenty of seemingly needless filler. But hey, it's a start.

Picking off where episode two ended, we see Tyrone almost murders Tandy, which is the most American Dad start to a relationship ever. I'm still not sure how this teleportation thing works or what the rules are, so if somebody could fill me in, that would be much appreciated. The two leads are unfortunately still mostly on their own, but there's a least a tangible connection between their stories this week. Tandy pays a visit to her mother, who still doesn't seem to give a sh** about her, and discovers that a detective is investigating her attempted rape/light dagger stabbing. Meanwhile, Tyrone is involved in voodoo related shenanigans. That's actually the plot, as his friend/love interest Evita takes him to see her aunt, an expert on all things Loa. Tyrone then hops into a cleansing bath, and let the fun begin!

In the spirit of the show, I'm going to go off on a completely unrelated path to walk you through the scenes involving this unnamed, unexplained dimension. To start off, this episode was incredibly impressive visually. I loved the differences between Tandy and Tyrone's scenes, with the over-saturation and blinding light for Tandy, offset with the darkness and shadows for Tyrone. I will say that it does make the episode a little tough to watch at times, with the visual shift between the two, but it's still a nice touch. As for the actual content, there actually isn't that much to say. Tandy attempts to convince dream/vision Tyrone not to kill Connors, the cop who killed his brother, while Tyrone tries to convince Tandy to stop running away from the problems in her life. The fact that I summed that all up in one sentence is the biggest problem in this episode. There was an almost unbelievable amount of filler in these scenes, and so little plot to offer the audience. That's not to mention the fact that this show still has a slow, plodding approach to pacing, more than enough to put most casual watchers to sleep.

5/10

There's clearly still a long way to go for Cloak & Dagger, both the characters and the show. Any new show is going to have growing pains, and this one is certainly no different. In spite of that, I thought "Stained Glass" showed some promise. Tandy and Tyrone are now at least in the same place, speaking to each other, and I'm excited about that. If there's any good news, there's nowhere to go but up from here, and I think these early episodes will likely be forgotten in the long run, which is probably for the best.

South Park "Not Funny" Review

Good night, amateur trolls that trolled a troll and trolled themselves into a troll, brothers. With one episode to go in the season, South Park has remained consistently funny and on-point with their humor, though I worry about how their going to wrap all of this up. There are a good six to seven ongoing storylines right now, and only one episode to finish off a few of them. There was no clear focus this week, but I'll start where the episode ended, with Gerald's troll-based storyline. It's pretty satisfying to see the Troll Hunter's massive revelation; that he is, in fact, just another troll, bent on world destruction. Even Gerald couldn't find the humor in his master plan, as the Troll Hunter is truly in a league of his own. With the world on the brink of war, the trolling has truly begun, as the Troll Hunter went to work on his own employees and the other trolls, though why they had to be naked for that is beyond me. Kyle is always a sucker for saving the ...

Latest Update on new puppy

As you may well know from my mom's posts, there is a handsome puppy in the house. His name is Rascal, which appropriately fits him. Before Tuesday, he'd never had much problem with the crate, something I found interesting. He'd also never experienced anxiety issues when people came and left. Then yesterday, my dad and I were standing in the driveway organizing things for a trip to Goodwill. All of a sudden, Rascal freaked out. Some history behind the newest member of our family. Rascal was a stray in Hollister, when CARE, a rescue organization, found him. At this time Rascal was estimated to be about 2 months old, the age of a puppy when you first get them. He went to another family, who had him for quite a while, around 5 months. Then, without explanation, this family moved to Ohio, surrendering Rascal. CARE once again had him and his crazy antics for about a month. Rascal's name was changed to Boots in his time with CARE, but he wouldn't answer to that name. He ...
