Cloak & Dagger "Call/Response" Review

Hey, the two main characters actually spend some time together this week. Hooray! I mean, their conversation did end with one of them daring the other to kill herself, but it's progress. But damn, this show is dark, and getting even darker.

Picking up where last week left off, we see Tandy and Tyrone having their first proper conversation, in the church where Tandy takes drugs and chills in a hoodie. In a unique twist, this whole conversation is a framing device for the entire episode, with splices of the conversation popping up here and there through the hour. Right from the start, the chemistry between these two is obvious, and the amount of time the show has spent setting the two characters up pays off. There's some enjoyable banter back and forth, and some nice references to their first meeting, but you can tell that there's a bit more of a bond forming. Tandy and Tyrone have found a connection in each other, someone who understands their pain and feels just as lost in the world. Ultimately, they end up fighting yet again, but the relationship is now somewhat established, so there's that.

We now go into the parallel stories for each character, and Tandy's story this week, at least at the start, reflects a more hopeful feeling. After sitting down with her mother, she starts to bond with Greg, her mother's boyfriend and the lawyer investigating the Roxxon Corporation. We see just how much he's invested into this case, and even the skeptical Tandy is willing to work with him, but you know what this is setting up. Yep, this is poor Greg's farewell, as a hitwoman, presumably hired by Roxxon, guns him down while a helpless Tandy watches. Almost halfway into this season, it was about time we got something approaching an antagonist. Tandy then attempts to commit suicide, but again, we see her embracing a little more hope, as she saves herself with her powers. Tandy's story got very dark this week, but as time goes on, we continue to see start to develop a more postiive mindset, although I don't have much hope for her solo investigation into Roxxon.

Tyrone kinda felt like he was off in B-story land for me this week, but again, his story has a more hopeful tone. After his talk with Tandy, he attempts to become a victim, using his bike as a way to get inside the police station and investigate the cop who killed his brother. After his plans are caught by his father, he ends up meeting the Wild Redhawks, the Mardi Gras Indian krewe his father grew up with. Here, he discovers that his brother was being trained to be a part of the group, and it appears that Tyrone might be willing to take up the mantle. Eventually, he ends up back at the police station, asking for the same detective that worked with Tandy last episode. While there wasn't much to Tyrone's story this week, it seems like he's on the right path, although again, I really doubt he's going to make much progress investigating the police.

7/10

"Call/Response" was a step in the right direction for the show this week, as we got an opportunity to see Tandy and Tyrone actually interact for a long period of time plus we now have two established goals for each main character and established antagonists for them to combat. However, the pacing issues remain, with a large part of this episode feeling far too dull for the subject matter. Ultimately, this show is still worth watching, but it's still yet to truly find its feet.

South Park "Not Funny" Review

Good night, amateur trolls that trolled a troll and trolled themselves into a troll, brothers. With one episode to go in the season, South Park has remained consistently funny and on-point with their humor, though I worry about how their going to wrap all of this up. There are a good six to seven ongoing storylines right now, and only one episode to finish off a few of them. There was no clear focus this week, but I'll start where the episode ended, with Gerald's troll-based storyline. It's pretty satisfying to see the Troll Hunter's massive revelation; that he is, in fact, just another troll, bent on world destruction. Even Gerald couldn't find the humor in his master plan, as the Troll Hunter is truly in a league of his own. With the world on the brink of war, the trolling has truly begun, as the Troll Hunter went to work on his own employees and the other trolls, though why they had to be naked for that is beyond me. Kyle is always a sucker for saving the ...

Henry's Universe Mode #231: WrestleMania II (Part 3)

Finn Balor vs The Undertaker Finn Balor felt the full force of the strikes of The Undertaker in the early going, eating rights and lefts to the skull. The Undertaker continued to lay into Balor, dumping him to the floor with a clothesline, then following up with his vintage suicide dive! After a brief skirmish on the outside, the Deadman got destructive, grabbing the Demon's throat and driving him through the announce table with a chokeslam! It was here that The Undertaker allowed Finn Balor a chance to just give up and concede defeat, but Balor wasn't having any of it. Finn got his second wind, countering an attempted chokeslam to connect with a reverse DDT, then the shotgun dropkick in the corner. Up top, Finn connected with Coup de Grace! 1........................2.......................but it's going to take a lot more to put The Undertaker away, especially at WrestleMania. Balor laid in some shots, busting The Undertaker open, but that proved to be a huge mistake. ...
