In which the WWE is hosting another pay-per-view, and you could be excused for forgetting about it.
For all the low expectations and abysmal TV ratings, this was actually a pretty decent show, with several outstanding matches and nothing that stood out as abjectly bad. However, the failure falls on the booking of said outstanding matches, failing to really move the company in the right direction.
We opened with one of the better matches of the night, for the Tag Team Titles. Gallows and Anderson haven't really clicked since their arrival in the WWE, and their booking as a midcard comedy act hasn't helped. Tonight, though, they were on fire, absolutely dominating the New Day and showing why they can be such an entertaining tag team. Then the finish happened, and everyone was frustrated again. Next up, we saw the pay-per-view debut of the new Crusierweight Division, in a decent match between TJP and Brian Kendrick. The real story is Kendrick's heel turn after the match, with this feud likely to continue.
We saw the final match of the best of seven series between Cesaro and Sheamus, which was my match of the night. Regardless of whether or not you like these guys, they put on a fantastic show, bringing the crowd to the edge of their feet. Then the finish happened, and everyone was frustrated again. You might be noticing a theme. Next up we saw the battle of the Bros of KO, with Chris Jericho picking up a win in a good match with Sami Zayn. We saw a Women's triple threat match that didn't quite live up to expectations, as Charlotte continues to win anything and everything. Seriously, it's like that woman is allergic to taking a pin. Finally, we saw the only title change of the night, with Roman Reigns becoming the new United States Champion. I have pretty high hopes for his championship run, and I would love to see the return of the US Open Challenge.
It's main event time, and with Seth Rollins finally, finally face, taking on Kevin Owens to become the new Champion of the Universe. It was a fun, chaotic match, and had a KO Crotch Chop, which is ultimately what you want from every title match. I'm glad Triple H didn't get involved, and Owens retaining was the right decision.
6/10
It was a fun night of wrestling, with great action and terrible booking. I'll be back next week to recap the 15 new pay-per-views taking place on Monday.
