Heath Slater vs Pentagon Dark
This was the first match back for the newly christened Pentagon Dark, and he looked to come back in a big way. Slater threw everything he could at Pentagon, even hitting a Smash Hit, but Pentagon looked determined to provide his master with another sacrifice, surviving Heath's offense. Pentagon Dark ruthlessly grounded Slater with strike after strike, before snapping Slater's arm with The Sacrifice, his hammerlock armbreaker. Heath could only moan in pain as Pentagon picked up a victory and provided another sacrifice to his master.
Winner: Pentagon Dark
Zack Sabre Jr vs Rey Mysterio
The recently debuted Sabre Jr, known as The Technical Wizard, was in for tough start to his NXT career, as he took on the Ultimate Underdog, Rey Mysterio. Mysterio dominated the early portion of the match, using his speed and high flying to stay one step ahead of Sabre's ground based attack. A 619 seemed to have put Zack away, but Sabre showed his intelligence, getting his foot to the bottom rope. Sabre used every trick in his arsenal to ground Rey, and it worked for a short period, with Sabre even managing to lock in his New School Armbreaker. Rey turned the tide, though, and a second 619 gave the Ultimate Underdog a debut win.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
Alexa Bliss vs Peyton Royce
This was the debut match for both of these women, though Alexa would have an immediate advantage, as Emma, whom Alexa referred to as her mentor, was at ringside. Royce got going early with some hard strikes, but couldn't keep the momentum going. Once Alexa got in some offense, she seemed to get a lot more comfortable, dominating Royce. An impressive moonsault off the top rope, which she calls Twisted Bliss, got the job done and a nice debut win.
After the match, Emma got a mic, expressing her excitement at Alexa's win. That was not all she said, though, as she demanded a shot at the NXT Women's Title next week. There was no answer from the champ, so we'll have to wait and see what happens next week.
Winner: Alexa Bliss
Prime Time Players vs The New Day- #1 Contender's Match for the NXT Tag Team Titles
Two former Smackdown teams went head to head once more for the right to face Gallows and Anderson for the belts next week. It was Big E and Xavier Woods who represented the New Day in this match, and they went right to work on Darren Young and Titus O'Neil. When you put together two teams that absolutely despise each other, with another man on the outside, the match crumbled into chaos. Both teams continued to brawl with each other, with multiple near falls and several distractions from Kofi Kingston on the outside. It was a very good match, but extremely chaotic, and eventually the official in charge threw the match out, leaving the state of the contendership to the tag titles in a mess.
Daniel Bryan vs Sami Zayn- #1 Contender's Match for the NXT Title
It was time for our main event, but everything was stopped when NXT GM William Regal arrived. Regal informed us that Sami Zayn had suffered a little "accident" and would not be participating in the upcoming match. However, he told Daniel Bryan to stay in the ring, because Regal would be at ringside, and he was bringing a little bad news with him.
So it was now Daniel Bryan vs Bad News Barrett for number one contendership, with William Regal at ringside, watching on. The match proved to be a great combination of styles, with Bryan's technical skill against Barrett's vicious strikes and brawling. It was Barrett who controlled the early going, grounding Bryan and opening him open with rights and lefts. Bryan refused to stay down, firing away with a series of big kicks and locking Barrett in the Yes Lock. Barrett might've tapped out then and there, but Regal intervened, placing Barrett's foot on the bottom rope to force a break of the hold. Bryan then exited the ring, yelling at Regal, before getting caught with a big Bull Hammer from Barrett, with Bryan just getting his shoulder up before three. The two continued going at it, with Barrett somewhat in control. Bryan, his head in tons of pain, just couldn't get much going, though he continued to fight. A second Bull Hammer spelled lights out for Daniel, as Bad News Barrett picked up a huge win, becoming the new number one contender with William Regal at his side.
Winner: Bad News Barrett
A new alliance appears to have been formed between NXT GM William Regal and Bad News Barrett, but why are they working together? Find out next week on NXT.
