SmackDown's first pay-per-view of Season 5 sees Sami Zayn defend his newly won WWE Championship against one of the most feared members of the locker room.
Judgment Day 2019 Card
American Alpha vs Andrade "Cien" Almas and ???
After successfully defending his Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania III, Andrade would defend it again, defeating Rey Mysterio on SmackDown. After the match, Chad Gable challenged Almas to one last match for the title, but the challenge was refused. The next week, Gable and new SmackDown draftee Jason Jordan reformed American Alpha, hitting Almas with the Grand Amplitude. Eventually, the match would be decided, as Almas will team up with whatever partner he can find to face Gable and Jordan, and if American Alpha win, Gable gets one more chance at the Intercontinental Championship at Money in the Bank.
Finn Balor vs Kofi Kingston
Since being drafted to the blue brand, the New Day have clashed with the Balor Club a number of times, as the two factions seemed unable to co-exist. Edge offered an olive branch, allowing one member of each team to face off in a singles match, with the winner getting a spot in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Balor chose himself, while the New Day, after much deliberation, rallied around Kofi Kingston to finally get his shot at glory.
Rusev Day(c) vs The Dream Team- SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match
It takes a special kind of arrogance to refer to yourselves as the "Dream Team", but that's exactly what new tag team Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre have done. They've lived up to the moniker, beating every team in their way, including the War Raiders in a number one contender's match. New champions Rusev Day have promised that Judgment Day is coming for the newcomers, but McIntyre and Ziggler just smiled and laughed, full of unbridled ego.
Johnny Gargano vs Seth Rollins
This is a WrestleMania III rematch that was brought about as Seth Rollins and Johnny Gargano would both be drafted to SmackDown. After losing to Gargano at 'Mania, Rollins was incredulous, believing his loss to be a complete fluke and insisting that with a second chance, he would beat Gargano easily. With another spot in the Money in the Bank match on the line, will Johnny Wrestling stand tall again or will Seth Rollins get his revenge and potentially hold the briefcase again?
Ember Moon(c) vs Asuka- Two out of Three Falls Match for the SmackDown Women's Championship
Ember Moon and Asuka have face off twice before, Asuka retaining the championship at last year's Judgment Day and Ember winning it from her at WrestleMania III. To settle the score, Edge booked on final match between the two, with one woman now needing to defeat the other twice to prove that she is truly superior. Asuka drew first blood on SmackDown two weeks ago with a vicious roundhouse kick, but Moon got her revenge on the go-home show, hitting "The Empress" with The Eclipse.
Daniel Bryan vs John Cena- Last Man Standing
This is another rematch from the Grandest Stage, and perhaps the biggest one yet. After Cena mercilessly assaulted Bryan two nights after beating him at WrestleMania III, Bryan would take a few weeks off, returning to cost Cena a WWE Championship Match against Sami Zayn. The two men would engage in some destructive brawls over the past few weeks, resulting in Edge booking them in a Last Man Standing match.
Sami Zayn(c) vs Samoa Joe- WWE Championship Match
Samoa Joe is always a very dangerous man, and he is on the tear of his life. After Joe defeated Braun Strowman to become number one contender, he dared Sami Zayn to face him in the ring. Zayn was too smart to walk into an obvious trap, but Joe hunted the champion down, beating Zayn into submission before officials could pull him away. "The Samoan Submission Machine" emphasized that this was part of his gameplan, to get into Zayn's head and make the champion feel weak and powerless. Joe continued to gloat in promos for the next few weeks, but on the go home show, Sami Zayn was back. Zayn looked more deranged and psychotic than we've ever seen him before, and though officials were able to hold the champion back, even Joe looked a little intimidated. Samoa Joe may have made the biggest mistake of his life, as the most dangerous version of Sami Zayn arrives at Judgment Day.
