Henry's Universe Mode #49: NXT

This week's episode of NXT has only three matches, but all three are pretty big and have title implications, so it should still be a good show. Universe Mode June 30th, 2016 NXT Location: Orlando, FL Paige(c) vs Sasha Banks- NXT Women's Title Match Paige dodged Sasha Banks last week, but NXT GM William Regal made her go ahead with the match this week. Paige attempted to play mind games after the bell rung, but Sasha was having none of it and quickly the two women were going at it. Paige proved why she's the NXT Women's Champion, executing a series of knee strikes into a hurricarana followed by a Paige-Turner for a close two count. Sasha fought back and nearly won the title off a big Frog Splash. Paige had the match won off a second Paige-Turner, but her ego got the better of her as she went for the killing blow. Sasha countered and nearly made her pay for it, getting another close two count. The champion fought through, and connected on a Ram-Paige...

Henry's Universe Mode #48: Raw

Following King of the Ring, today's episode of Raw is quite a big one, with three title matches in store. Nia Jax puts the Women's Title on the line against Kelly Kelly, CM Punk has been forced to take on John Cena, and in the main event, Sheamus challenges the Texas Rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin for the World Heavyweight Title. Plus D-Generation X, the Wyatt Family and more! Universe Mode June 27th, 2016 Raw Location: Phoenix, AZ Harper and Rowan vs The Outsiders- #1 Contender's Match for the World Tag Team Titles Harper and Rowan, surprisingly, wrestled the match right down the middle, not cutting any corners and obeying the referee's instructions. The Outsiders, however, did not, and used that to their advantage, constantly cheating, though always behind the official's back. Hall and Nash isolated Rowan, believing him to be the weaker member of the team, and Harper could only watch on in despair as his partner seemed to put up no real ...

Henry's Universe Mode #47: King of the Ring

Tonight, a king will be crowned. Who will walk away, crowned royalty, and will we get a hint at who they will challenge at the biggest party of the summer? Universe Mode June 26th, 2016 King of the Ring Location: Washington, D.C. Cesaro vs Bad News Barrett- King of the Ring Semi-Finals Match We opened King of the Ring with the first semi-finals match, and the final match of Smackdown's side of the tournament. Both men were ready to represent Smackdown as King of the Ring, trading high impact moves, Cesaro with an uppercut and Barrett with a Winds of Change. Cesaro took control, and nearly took Barrett out with an impressive superplex to the floor. Barrett got back into things quickly, dropping Cesaro with a Bull Hammer, which wasn't quite enough for victory. Both men threw everything they had at each other, neither staying down for the count. It was Cesaro who capitalized, with a second wind, and dropped Barrett three times with deadlift ...

Henry's Universe Mode #46: Smackdown

I haven't been feeling that well over the past few days, and that's the reason why Smackdown is running late. As a result, Smackdown is only two matches this week, the two King of the Ring Quarter-Final matches. The event itself will be posted later today. Apologies for the inconvenience. Universe Mode June 24th, 2016 Smackdown Location: Miami, FL Kurt Angle vs Bad News Barrett- King of the Ring Quarter-Finals Match Both men were eager to advance, and started out with a massive brawl, neither giving ground. The brawl continued in and out of the ring, with Angle eventually grabbing control. That didn't last long, when Barrett connected with the Bull Hammer, forcing Angle to reach deep for the kick out. Barrett, frustrated, then tried to pin Angle, using the ropes for leverage, but Angle kicked out again. The Bare Knuckle Brawler then tried to slow things down and out wrestle Angle, a foolish mistake. Angle nearly made him pay for it when he connected wit...

Henry's Universe Mode #45: NXT

Today on NXT, the main event features an NXT Arrival rematch, as Samoa Joe faces AJ Styles in an Extreme Rules Match, where anything and everything is legal. The winner of that match will become the new number one contender, and be receiving a NXT Title Match in the near future. Also, Pentagon Jr and Paige put their titles on the line and more! Universe Mode June 22nd, 2016 NXT Location: Nashville, TN Paige(c) vs Charlotte- NXT Women's Title Match Following her victory over Paige last week, many assumed Sasha Banks would have earned a title shot. However, Paige chose to put her title on the line against Charlotte, oddly enough. Charlotte definitely did not deserve this opportunity, but Paige gave her title shot, with many fans believing Paige was dodging Sasha. Charlotte was not going to let the chance pass her by, and nearly won it early, countering the Ram-Paige and connecting with Natural Selection for a close two count. Charlotte came close to winning the m...

Henry's Universe Mode #44: Raw

First off, I've made the decision to cancel Main Event, feeling it was a waste of time. The Light Heavyweight Title will now be defended on the show of it's current champion. The Raw GM made waves when he signed Raw's second title match for King of the Ring, seeing a rematch between CM Punk and John Cena for the Intercontinental Title. The aforementioned Punk will take on World Heavyweight Champion Bray Wyatt in Raw's main event. Also, two more King of the Ring matches, as we determine who advances to this Sunday's King of the Ring pay-per-view. Universe Mode June 20th, 2016 Raw Location: Chicago, IL Sheamus vs Umaga A special seventh match was added to King of the Ring, seeing two men who lost unfairly in the tournament as Raw's Sheamus(who was attacked by Kane) and Smackdown's Drew McIntyre(who lost under dubious means) go one on one. The winner will receive a massive prize, as they will fight for their brands world title the night a...

Money In The Bank 2016 Recap

In which if you missed the event, sorry, about your DAMN LUCK. I said this would go up on Monday, sorry about that lie. This was a somewhat lackluster event, then the last half of the pay-per-view happened, and it totally wasn't. First off, congrats to the 2016 NBA Champions, the Cleveland Cavaliers. Expect a post on that subject tomorrow. Now, let's get to some rasslin'. The opening tag match was fine, but I'm still left wanting by the performance of the tag champs. Don't get me wrong, they're better than the Usos, but I still don't really care for them, and they don't get me invested in the product. I'm going to lump Corbin-Ziggler, the tag match and Crews-Sheamus all in here, to save space. Here's some brief thoughts: Corbin is a good heel, but the program has gone on to long....Nattie's heel turn was good, with the division needing more top flight heels.....I may be in the minority, but I really like Sheamus. He's a solid worker...

Quick Update

Hey, it's Henry. I haven't done a blog update in a little while, so here goes. First of all, regarding the Universe Mode. I feel it's been going very well, and has been pretty fun from my end as well. Main Event will be skipped for this week, as Smackdown went up late. I am considering cancelling Main Event, as it feels a bit redundant to be honest. Also, I will be doing a review for the Money in the Bank pay per view on Sunday, but I'll be watching game 7 of the NBA Finals on that night. The review will go up early on Monday. Also, I'm considering a return for my Philly Flyers series, which, if it happened, would be sporadic at best. I'm hoping to finish that series with a Stanley Cup, and finally put it to rest. Finally, King of the Ring will be posted on the 26th. As I've already stated, this is the only time that event will happen. See you on Monday, Henry

Henry's Universe Mode #43: Smackdown

Apologies for this post coming out a day late. Today on Smackdown, two number one contender's matches, two King of the Ring matches, and Adam Rose! That is quite the line-up. Universe Mode June 17th, 2016 Smackdown Location: Pittsburgh, PA Prime Time Players vs Edge and Christian- WWE Tag Team Titles #1 Contender's Match The team of Edge and Christian got a huge opportunity to kick off Smackdown, taking on the former tag team champions, with a title match next week on the line. Edge and Christian clearly went in with a game plan, isolating Darren Young, but that didn't last long once Titus was tagged in. Following some dominant offense from Titus, Darren Young tagged back in as the two executed their tag finisher for a close two count. Darren tagging in played into the opposition's favor, as Edge and Christian beat down on Mr. No Days Off, hitting their tag finisher, a clothesline-spear combo, for another close two count. Edge and Christian made a...

Henry's Universe Mode #42: NXT

Two weeks ago, we saw the debut of new Balor Club member, Kenny Omega. After watching his leader Finn Balor loose the NXT Championship to Sami Zayn last week at NXT Arrival, Omega has issued the challenge of a lifetime. Tonight on NXT, the new debutant faces the new champion, as Kenny Omega goes one on one with Sami Zayn! Universe Mode NXT June 15th, 2016 Location: Boston, MA The Balor Club vs The Lucha Dragons Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows were riding a bit of a cold streak, and were looking to get back on track against the Lucha Dragons. Anderson and Gallows really showed their full potential, dominating most of the match. Kalisto survived quite a bit of offense from the much bigger guys, even surviving the Magic Killer, thanks to an assist from Sin Cara. However, a Gallows Pole Chokebomb was enough for Gallows to seal the victory for his team. Winners: The Balor Club Bo Dallas vs Apollo Crews Kenny Omega was not the only new face on NXT, as Apollo Crews ...

Henry's Universe Mode #41: Raw

With just under two weeks to King of the Ring, Raw presents one of the biggest shows of the year. Two more King of the Ring matches, with the field being narrowed down to 4. That's not all- three titles will be on the line. In the opening match, John Cena puts the Intercontinental Title on the line against a "worthy challenger". Chyna defends the Women's Title against Nia Jax, and in the main event, the World Tag Team Titles are on the line, as Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns defend against the former champs, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, with Bray Wyatt banned from ringside. Universe Mode Raw June 13th, 2016 Location: Philadelphia, PA John Cena(c) vs ????- Intercontinental Title Match The Intercontinental Champion made his way down to the ring, opening Raw, and who should his challenger be but.........the Voice of the Voiceless, the Best in the World, CM Punk, who lost his match with Stone Cold Steve Austin last week for the number one contendership...

Henry's Universe Mode #40: Main Event

On this episode of Main Event, the Icon Sting is in the house, and he takes on the Mexican Aristocrat, Alberto Del Rio! Universe Mode Main Event June 12th, 2016 Location: Houston, TX Jack Swagger vs James Storm We opened Main Event with a classic All-American clash, seeing the patriotic Swagger take on the Cowboy James Storm. Swagger established his superior wrestling ability early on, halting any momentum Storm could build up. Storm, a brawler, used his strikes to get back into it, but took the fight back to the mat, seemingly making a mistake. Swagger quickly got back up, but ate a Last Call superkick, which was only enough for a 2 count. Storm tried to use his power several times, but Swagger's technical prowess proved to be the difference, as he countered several times. A devastating Swagger Bomb proved to be too much for the Cowboy to overcome, at least on this night. Winner: Jack Swagger The Bushwhackers vs Ric Flair and Arn Anderson Flair and Ande...

Henry's Universe Mode #39: Smackdown

Before we start, two pieces of news. First of all, as evidenced by today's date, Smackdown is moving to Friday. That's just to help me out, so I don't have to do NXT and Smackdown back to back. Second of all, King of the Ring continues tonight and will finish on June 26th. This will likely be the first and last time KOTR is run in this series, because it takes up too much time and doesn't accomplish much. Next year, it will be replaced by Money in the Bank, hosted by Raw and Smackdown. Note that there will be a cross-brand Money in the Bank match at Wrestlemania, but the winner will be forced to cash it in before June. Thanks for reading, let's move on to Smackdown. Universe Mode Smackdown June 10th, 2016 Location: Chicago, IL The Vaudevillains vs The Rhodes Scholars The newly reformed Rhodes Scholars took on The Vaudevillains in Smackdown's opening contest, each team looking for a big win. Rhodes and Sandow were in control early on, but a m...

NXT Takeover: The End...........of the Beginning Recap

Tonight, it was the end...........of the beginning..............of the end of the beginning............of the beginning of all ends............of the ending of all beginnings...........some other ambiguous crap. Yes ladies and gentlemen, the longest pay-per-view name in history, just not officially. Technically the official name is just "The End", but let's all admit, that isn't nearly as fun. What was fun was this show; that is a segue and a half right there. This has been a weird recap thus far, but let's get to business. To open the show, we got the debut of Andrade "Cien" Almas, otherwise known as Manny Andrade or La Sombra. He's a very talented wrestler, and showcased some of that in this match against everyone's favorite wrestler, Tye Dillinger. I will say that I enjoyed his debut a lot more than Austin Aries at Takeover: Dallas, but I do wish we could've gotten some character development. The Revival and American Alpha tore th...

Henry's Universe Mode #38: NXT Arrival

Tonight, for one night, NXT is the showcase, NXT is the main event. Tonight, war will be waged and scores will be settled. Can NXT's most popular star finally topple the leader of the new world? Climb the ladder of success, claim the gold and the glory, and walk away the victor. A monster is on the hunt, and targets the Phenomenal One, with a potential title opportunity on the line. Tonight, NXT surpasses all. Tonight, some of the greatest performers in all of the world showcase and thrill. Tonight, NXT...........Arrives. Universe Mode June 8th, 2016 NXT Arrival Location: Atlanta, GA Tyler Breeze(c) vs Hideo Itami- Light Heavyweight Title Match We opened NXT Arrival with the recently added Light Heavyweight Title Match, as Tyler Breeze put the belt on the line. Breeze was determined to let his vicious side show early, and he followed through, unleashing a devastating DDT on the apron. Itami, once he recovered, showed off his aerial maneuvers, divin...

Henry's Universe Mode #37: Raw

On this massive edition of Raw, CM Punk returns from his injury to take on the Texas Rattlesnake, Stone Cold Steve Austin, with the winner becoming the new number one contender to Bray Wyatt's World Heavyweight Title. The first round of the King of the Ring tournament begins, Lita takes on the monstrous Nia Jax and more! Universe Mode June 6th, 2016 Raw Location: Raleigh, NC Mankind vs Ryback- King of the Ring First Round Match Ryback was determined to get into the title hunt after failing to capture the Intercontinental Title twice, and saw King of the Ring as his big opportunity. Mankind is a wily veteran and was able to turn Ryback's anger and pure power against him in the early going. Mankind took the fight to the outside of the ring, understanding that The Big Guy is not a great brawler. He could only contain Ryback for so long, and Mankind was decimated with a Meat Hook and then a Shell Shocked in quick succession. Mankind, though, found the i...

Henry's Universe Mode #36: Main Event

On this episode of Main Event, it's Champion vs Champion as Tyler Breeze faces Dean Ambrose. Sasha Banks takes on AJ Lee, and The Briscoes are in action! Universe Mode June 4th, 2016 Main Event Location: Philadelphia, PA Sasha Banks vs AJ Lee The Boss of NXT, Sasha Banks, was undefeated entering her biggest test yet in former Diva's Champ AJ Lee. AJ proved why she is a former champion, hitting some very impressive moves in the early going. A spinning heel kick from AJ nearly won her the match, and this caused Sasha to reconsider her strategy. Sasha used her ring savvy to catch AJ with the Bank Statement, though it wasn't enough to get the job done. AJ shocked Sasha, pulling a new move out of her arsenal, an Indian Deathlock, that Sasha couldn't find a way out of, forcing the Boss to tap and putting AJ in line for a potential title opportunity. Winner: AJ Lee Rikishi and Haku vs The Briscoes Raw's Briscoes were in action here on Mai...

Henry's Universe Mode #35: Smackdown

A new number one contender is crowned, and the final four spots in the King of the Ring tournament are up for grabs. Get ready for Smackdown! Universe Mode June 2nd, 2016 Smackdown Location: Washington, D.C. Kurt Angle vs Billy Gunn- King of the Ring Qualifying Match This was an interesting King of the Ring qualifier, as Angle's wrestling tenacity faced off against Gunn's power and brawling style. Early on it appeared that Gunn was in the driver's seat, but a succession of suplexes perfectly executed by Angle put an end to that idea. Angle was in control of the match, and looked to finish it off with an Ankle Lock, but Gunn squirmed his way out. Angle, frustrated, lost his head for a second and that was all that was needed for Gunn, who connected with the Famouser. Angle, though, had the ring savvy to find the bottom rope. Angle fought back to his feet and dropped Gunn with an Angle Slam, but it was Gunn who found the bottom rope this time. An...
