Mankind vs Ryback- King of the Ring First Round Match
Ryback was determined to get into the title hunt after failing to capture the Intercontinental Title twice, and saw King of the Ring as his big opportunity. Mankind is a wily veteran and was able to turn Ryback's anger and pure power against him in the early going. Mankind took the fight to the outside of the ring, understanding that The Big Guy is not a great brawler. He could only contain Ryback for so long, and Mankind was decimated with a Meat Hook and then a Shell Shocked in quick succession. Mankind, though, found the intestinal fortitude to kick out, confounding and frustrating Ryback. Ryback looked for a cheap advantage, grabbing a chair, but Mankind made him pay, knocking the chair out of hands and planting him with a piledriver on the steel. Ryback fought back with power and ferocity, sending Mankind crashing into the mat with another Meat Hook-Shell Shocked combo that was enough for victory.
Winner and advancing in King of the Ring: Ryback
Goldberg vs Vader
Two of the newest additions to the Raw roster, and two of the biggest men in Universe Mode, Goldberg and Vader, faced off in this match. Vader was determined not to be overlooked, with all of the hype entering this match focused on his opponent, and The Mastodon came out of the gates swinging. Vader's strength won out in the early going, and it looked for a while that Goldberg was in serious trouble. Goldberg's impressive strength was too much for Vader to handle, however, and once he was on his feet the match quickly ended. A Spear, another one for good measure, and a Jackhammer spelled victory for Goldberg.
Winner: Goldberg
Lita vs Nia Jax- Women's Title Number One Contender's Match
Lita was up against the odds, taking on the dangerous Nia Jax, with the winner facing Chyna for the Women's Title next week on Raw. Lita, like Mankind earlier in the evening, possessed a massive amount of experience as compared to Jax, and used that to her advantage. Lita even managed to connect with a Twist of Fate, though this only seemed to infuriate Jax, who struck back with an absolute vengeance. A gutbuster from Jax was followed up with a massive leg drop, though Lita managed to kick out. Lita countered, and went up top for a Lita-sault, only to see Jax move out of the way. Jax went for a second leg drop, but it was Lita who dodged the maneuver. Lita, deciding to stay on the ground, dropped Jax with a vicious snap DDT, though that wasn't enough for victory. Jax took the fight to the outside, decimating Lita with a Samoan Drop on the concrete. Back in the ring, Jax slammed Lita to the mat before dropping a second leg drop for the victory.
Winner: Nia Jax
Kevin Nash w/Scott Hall vs Ricky Steamboat- King of the Ring First Round Match
Our second King of the Ring match of the night saw Ricky Steamboat up against the odds, facing Kevin Nash, who had a massive advantage in his tag partner, Scott Hall, standing by at ringside. Steamboat went right after Nash, understanding that he couldn't wait to give Nash the chance to regroup. Try as he might, though, Steamboat couldn't contain Big Daddy Cool, who began to build momentum. Hall, at ringside, saw his buddy getting things going and decided to chip in, throwing in a chair and distracting the ref. Nash was slow to capitalize, and the ref turned around in time to see Nash clobber Steamboat with the chair, causing a shocking disqualification. Steamboat moved on in the King of the Ring, and Hall and Nash were left stunned, their cunning plan having fallen through.
Winner and advancing in King of the Ring: Ricky Steamboat
Stone Cold Steve Austin vs CM Punk- World Heavyweight Title Number One Contender's Match
CM Punk made his grand return from injury, after being taken out of action by Chris Jericho just over a month ago, against Steve Austin, who defeated Brock Lesnar a few weeks back. Punk quickly established an advantage in the technical side of things, while Austin took every chance to brawl, stomp and throw hands. Austin's no nonsense style took Punk by surprise, but it was Austin who was shocked when Punk fired back with a volley of dropkicks. A GTS from Punk appeared to have won him the match, but a kick out from Austin prolonged affairs. Austin, with the heart of a lion, fought back, flipping off Punk before dropping him with a Stunner, though it was Punk who reached deep for the kick out. Both men brawled to the outside, engaging in a wild volley of kicks and punches, each busting the other open. Back inside the ring, Punk went to the top rope, looking for a diving elbow, but Austin rolled out of the way, dropping Punk with a Lou Thesz Press, unleashing another volley of rights and lefts, bloodying his own knuckles. A second Stunner was the final blow, ending a fantastic main event. Stone Cold Steve Austin is the new number one contender, and will face Bray Wyatt for the World Heavyweight Title at King of the Ring.
Winner: Stone Cold Steve Austin
