Jack Swagger vs James Storm
We opened Main Event with a classic All-American clash, seeing the patriotic Swagger take on the Cowboy James Storm. Swagger established his superior wrestling ability early on, halting any momentum Storm could build up. Storm, a brawler, used his strikes to get back into it, but took the fight back to the mat, seemingly making a mistake. Swagger quickly got back up, but ate a Last Call superkick, which was only enough for a 2 count. Storm tried to use his power several times, but Swagger's technical prowess proved to be the difference, as he countered several times. A devastating Swagger Bomb proved to be too much for the Cowboy to overcome, at least on this night.
Winner: Jack Swagger
The Bushwhackers vs Ric Flair and Arn Anderson
Flair and Anderson, two legends of the business, seemed disgusted with their opponents, but were forced to go through with the match regardless. Luke and Butch were unwilling to go down easy, though, and gave it everything they had, even controlling a portion of the match. Good tagging from Flair and Anderson would prove to be the difference, as the big Double A Spinebuster put Luke down for the count.
Winners: Ric Flair and Arn Anderson
Sting vs Alberto Del Rio
Both Sting and Del Rio were looking for their first win of Universe Mode, and were desperate to get it. Del Rio quickly focused on the arms of Sting, softening him up for the Cross Armbreaker. Sting seemed to be overwhelmed in the early going, nearly losing the match several times. A counter of the Armbreaker offered an opening, and Sting capitalized, surprising everyone by connecting with an early Scorpion Death Drop, though Del Rio found a way to kick out. Sting wasn't finished on offense, though, hitting some quick strikes and connecting on a Stinger Splash, getting a heartbeat away from the 3 count. Sting came close to the win again, locking in the Scorpion Deathlock, but Del Rio fought to the bottom rope. Del Rio then caught Sting with the Cross Armbreaker, but it was Sting who fough out of the hold. Del Rio sent Sting to the corner, connecting on the double stomp out of the Tree of Woe, but Sting's foot was on the bottom rope, stopping the count. The Stinger, with the crowd behind him, connected on a second Scorpion Death Drop, and Del Rio stood no chance of kicking out.
Winner: Sting
There you have it. Sting gets his first win of Universe Mode, and Alberto Del Rio is left searching for his own win. See you on Raw.
